    Wow... Anyone see that ending?
  • wes_mantooth
i have missed the whole season. Was tonight the finale?
  • gut
Yeah...Awesome finale and great season (except for last week - WTF!!?!). Some heavy shit went down this season.

By the way, I think they smashed the body count of any single season of Sorpranos.

Yeah I meant to start this thread last week...what was the point of that? I mean she was always a little weird with him, but never thought that would have happened...that whole episode really didn't make much sense to me.

My jaw nearly hit the floor at the end tonight. I couldn't believe it.

So pissed off at that ending tonight. Made the show ten times worse IMO.

Obviously ill keep watching cuz the show is still prolly gonna be great..but damn

And ya last week was fucked up lol

I think that was the best episode this show has had. Nucky comes out on top and shows that he is still the king. I wonder what he is going to do to Margaret. She's fucking him over big time at the end there.

The show has had a little "shock-value" that, frankly, seemed a bit unnecessary. I think the whole point was just to show how screwed up he is.

[SP]I understand the ending from multiple perspectives, but what I don't really get is why he went obviously knowing what was going to happen. Or maybe it's that he thought it was a possibility, but it was the only way so he had to take the chance. Because for everything that happened, he didn't really strike me as suicidal. Ready to die, maybe, but not suicidal.

Side note: I half expected his mom to screw the Phantom of the Opera after he left. She probably did and we just didn't see it.[/SP]

Some people don't seem to understand why in last week's episode they showed the scene w/ Jimmy and his mother. I interpreted that as the point in which he decided to go into the military and join the war effort; which is what turned him into the animal he became.

[SP]True. Jimmy was the main character, next to Lucky, and a pretty good actor. That two-season story arc (maybe all they really had initially?) is essentially over. But if it means more Al Capone, sign me up!

As for Margaret, I think Nucky actually does love her. That will be a real test, but he's always got an angle. And I imagine that would put him in some trouble with his partners, potentially.

By the way, I thought the ending was excellent. Nucky, until recently, seemed more a politician than a gangster. This shows how cold and ruthless he is or has become. I think given the opportunity he would have killed his brother during that fight. Although I think his brother is going to buy the farm at some point. Can't go to jail after seeing Nucky kill Jimmy like that. Too risky. The sausage king will buy it soon enough if he has nothing to offer, too.[/SP]

Oh,I get why, I'm just not sure it was necessary. And I think he was always pyschotic from a screwed-up childhood - an absent, cold jerk of a father that raped his mother, his screwed up mom, and then raise by Nucky, essentially. Obviously the Commandante telling him "you're a good son" recently triggered something.

Also, something about that episode made me think he never actually went in the military (although we do see his dog tags). There's a call from his mother at the end about "it's time to come home". Personally, I think he ran away at that point and just crawled into a bottle (I assume he was kicked out of school for pummeling his teacher, and going to the military was the story told to Nucky). Now that I think about it, explains his mom's odd reaction at the dog tags - maybe he really did go to the military and she thought he didn't.

I'm not sure, but you may be reading into it a bit much. They show the flashback of him being in a trench. What was with his limping the last few episodes? Has he always limped and I just now noticed?

Didnt you see the scene where he's in battle?

I thought it started after the fight with his father...but lookin back at that, there didnt seem to be any damage to his knee was there?
  • dwccrew
I didn't even notice until a friend pointed it out. I think it happened before the fight with his father, but again, I may be wrong.

I don't think so. There's a lot in these last few episodes. Kind of a blur, but I think I remember him in the recruiting office. Obviously he did go, but I'm not sure his mother really knew that. Or there's a different interpretation and, being the survivor/opportunist she is, is already telling her grandson "someday you'll be an important person in this town".

Anyway, the mobsters in Sopranos had things so much better!

Great episode, and great season. Boardwalk Empire again teaches us that a truly great story is better than dragging out popular characters. Take note: every single network drama.

Jimmy has always had a limp. Its how he became friends with the phantom (military hospital). I fell asleep to the midnight showing and the phantom foreshadows the ending a bit after jimmy makes things right with chalky. Jimmy dismisses it and says something about getting a steak.

I think Owen Sleater is going to have a HUGE role moving forward. Jimmy foreshadowed this when he said "I used to have your job," basically saying that Owen is following in the same path as Jimmy. Throw in the fact that this dude boned Nucky's girl, and this has all the makings of a great rivalry season:

Margaret pisses me off. God didn't cure your daughter so why give the church that land? The juice isn't worth the squeeze.

Did the federal agent marry the nanny?

I saw the first post of this thread and immediately stopped reading so I could watch it unspoiled during my lunchbreak.

    Crazy stuff.

Now that I have had some time to reflect on the episode, I don't think they could have ended it any other way. Nucky was never going to trust or forgive Jimmy. And if Nucky was to assume power again, he had to do away with Jimmy. Now my question is what happens to Eli now? Will Nucky deal with him next season? Did he forgive his brother? Does he believe the BS line his brother gave him? So many questions going into next season. Should be a good one and I don't know how we'll make it from now until then.

Eli and Jimmy were both BSing Nucky. He chose to believe Eli, in part because Jimmy kind of copped to it and also because he saw Jimmy (maybe) when he got shot. One of those two certainly had to go. Eli will get his eventually - he's a wannabe and if it's not Nucky it will be someone else.

Good point about Owen. Difference between him and Jimmy is Owen won't have any reservations about crossing Lucky (well, obviously now if you couldn't figure it out before). But, also, Owen is far more savvy and will be Nucky's confidante even while he's screwing Nucky (and his wife) behind his back.

Both Owen and Eli just saw what Nucky did to practically his son, Im doubting they do much crossing anymore.

I don't think that will make a difference. Owen will probably think he's smarter than Nucky, anyway, and that's usually how you ignore what will happen if you're caught.

Also, he was pushing Eli to take that deal. "Two years max"....yeah, right.

Yeah I was wondering if nucky just got him a great deal through his connections or if he is just lying about 2 years max
