Conceal carry weapon choice

  • WebFire
I am planning on get getting my conceal carry permit probably in the spring. But I'd like to purchase my gun soon. What is your weapon of choice? I'm debating whether considering my wife's potential use of the gun. I'd like her to take the class with me and be able to use the gun. If it were just for me, I'd probably go with a .45 ACP, but a 9mm might be a little better for her.

    Glock? Ruger? S&W? Kahr? Sig?

    Model? Caliber?

I carry a Sig P220 .45 7.1 length (big fan of Sig Weapons) I load an 8 round clip but I also have a extended 12 round chip as a reload. I bought a full size Sig P226 9MM for my range and USPSA shooting nice very nice weapon…

My wife and daughters have shot my .45 they can handle it at the range (little practice required and as my wife said frightening at first) but it is a little to much for them to be a carry weapon. </SPAN>

I would suggest a 9mm If this is your first weapon and have never handled a pistol a 9mm may also be a good pick for you also.</SPAN>

For their first weapon the 9mm is a good, not a big kick and blast and a something both you and your wife can enjoy shooting.

Here a nice site to be able to research a weapon: http://gundirectory.com/</SPAN>

I'm not concerned about me handling the .45, but I do think about your comment about the 9mm may still apply. It would still be a fun gun to shoot for both of us and she would feel more comfortable. Even if she takes the class, she won't carry. I'd have her take the class more for the experience and learning the basics and laws. Then she could carry if needed.

At the same time, if I am going to drop the money, I'd like to have the .45.

The wife an I enjoy going to the range together. The wife likes shooting something we can do together (better that bowling she doesn't bust of her nails shooting). I would suggest that once the wife is comfortable with you and her shooting she would be very willing to let you get a .45 for yourself. Taking the classes together is also fun and provide some interesting comments.

Many I also suggest that once you have a weapon that you also invest in a gun safe for the home.
I have one in the bedroom and also one down stairs where I keep the pistols. This is a safety for the future of kids and grand kids.

    Note Cost: 2 Safety Glasses
2 Ear Potection (don't go cheap)
1 Holster (don't go cheap get what you like at fixs the weapon)
1 Gun bag (nice to have to carry guns and ammo to the range)
1 or 2 Military Metal Ammo box for ammo storage
    1 Gun Safe
    Few boxes of Ammo

Here the nice thing ... Christmas gifts "Nothing says Ho Ho like ammo" I get 2 or 3 boxes in my stocking every year.

If you live around the Canton area I can help you out or I suggest http://www.kamessports.com/

Kimber .45 ACP Custom II for you

Smith and Wesson Bodyguard Semi for her.

I have both and you will enjoy them. Kimber is expensive, but you wont find a better shooting semi on the market.

    Thanks Belly.

Gunsafe is on the list as I have a shotgun in the house now. Gun stays "hidden" in the closet and ammo elsewhere. But with more guns in the house, I definitely want a safe.

    Google "Slidefire".

Best accessory I ever put on my AR-15. If you put one on your AR, Tul Ammo is very reasonably priced and will cycle through great. You will be turning your AR-15 to basically full auto for $350.

Kimber are very nice weapon with out question. I know a few who do have them (very nice). I have never carried a Kimber however a Kimber Custom II at 8.5 length and the Kimber Compact at 7.7 would seem a little uncomfortable to carry. The Sig P220 .45 at 7.1 sometime wish was shorter. But if you are good with it, then that is the only thing that matters...
