ESPN: How Long Until They Are Gone?

  • ernest_t_bass
I saw commercials for a new NBC sports network (obviously a ND sports network), we have FSN, CBS sports, BTN, Longhorn network, and I'm sure there are others out there that I am forgetting. When I saw the commercial for the NBC network, the first thing that came to my mind was the ESPN will soon be a thing of the past. If anything, I can see them just changing to ABC sports, since ESPN has such a bad name (at least on the OC).

there are multiple news networks why can't there be multiple sports news networks?

You serious bro? I don't think you realize how big Disney/ESPN is.

    Never.

    Idiot fail.

Although I would be very happy if ESPN went to hell.

Probably soon, SportsbyBrooks is really doing a great job of tearing them down.

By the end of the week. The new NBC promos have scared them enough to fold already.

Seriously though??? You think this is going to put ESPN out of business? ESPN is HUGE! If anything the other networks will be resigned to showing only games and not reporting news and such.

They won't be gone, but I can certainly see them becoming less powerful, especially as the individual conference channels continue to evolve. If they keep doing things like hiding the Fine tape for 9 years, probably to protect their precious Big East interests, people will become less and less involved with them.

Hopefully soon but I doubt it.

is this a serious question? There is nothing more that i want to see than espn go down, but come on.

Unless NBC magically decides to stop being fucking awful at sports coverage, their network doesn't stand a chance to last, let alone compete

This portion of your statement is why I started this thread. There are plenty of people out there that want them gone, so they COULD diminish. They could end up just being an all poker channel, with some WNBA on the side, if some other networks popped up.

As long as they have Disney, it wont happen though. No one has close to the money ESPN does at their disposal. Everything they do is ahead of the curve, and they can continue to just buy rights to shit WE ALL watch no matter the network. Then they get the ad money...etc etc etc.

There main focus has never been on sports though. They have plenty of resources to put into a legit sports network.

You're an idiot if you think ESPN is going anywhere. I don't know any other way of putting it.

This. Unless people decide to boycott the top sports we follow in this country, ESPN will not be going anywhere.

    This!

Plus the fact that they have the rights to Monday Night Football.....ESPN as ignorant/annoying as they are, they aren't going anywhere.
