Stain removal: Red punch, white carpet

  • fan_from_texas
Any suggestions? We don't have a stain yet, but I'm willing to bet that we'll have at least one spill tomorrow evening when we have about 40 people coming over. I'd prefer to know in advance what to do to avoid the stain setting in. The punch is some sort of red mixture of fruit punch, sprite, and other misc. ingregients.

What do you guys (and gals) use to clean up after a spill? Is there a miracle product I should pick up at the store beforehand? Or is there some household remedy that will work?

It's actually more of a beige, off-white sort of thing. Whatever it is, red punch will definitely show up on it.

I've always had good luck with Resolve carpet cleaner. As long as you catch it within a few minutes of the spill, it'll come right up.

    Do her sister.

Actually, I made the same mistake of buying beige carpet. My wife (then girlfriend) told me not to get something so light, but I didn't listen. Dogs and kids and being drunk can cause for a lot of stains.

I made the same mistake as well. Twelve years later, just this year, I replaced all carpet except for the bedrooms with hardwood flooring. So much better. You spill mop up in minutes. Only thing is it definitely bounces the noise around. I get tired of hearing the dogs trot all over the place.

The kitchen is hardwood, but the great room and dining room have carpet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping people aren't too bad. But what can you do?
