So I've been trying to clean-up tags and organize things, mainly due to "cached" music from various internet sources.
This is all for MP3 files. If you're using ITunes I think you're SOL.
MusicBrainz is the best I've found so far - batch tags the majority of the fields and even can look-up the info based on the audio signature, along with a digital signature to compare with a pretty extensive database. Really nice thing is it's the only manager I've found so far to batch download album art (which it does alongside tagging).
Stamp ID3 Tag Editor is pretty good, too. And it's much quicker than MusicBrainz (for obvious reasons). I use it as a second pass to fill in any remaining tag info.
Then I use Mp3tag to rename everything consistently (mainly to organize everything into folders by artist, could do album sub-folders if I chose, but don't care).
Finally, MediaMonkey is my player. It helps you clean-up duplicate content/titles and also filters for key missing tags such as year, album, title, etc...Best part is a batch leveling feature that normalizes volume (because I hate when I have to turn-up a song to hear it and then the next blows your eardrums out).
All this is free (MediaMonkey looks to have some nice premium features, but I don't have need for it). Just curious if anyone has suggestions or better programs to use. Last thing I'm looking for is better/more refined genre tags (i.e. 80's, Metal, etc..). MusicBrainz has a few options I haven't gotten into yet.
