More College Coach Child molestation...Syracuse
-
1_beastPenn State and now Syracuse??? Is this going to open the flood gates ala the Catholic Priests scandels??? Will more people come forward exposing even more coaches and Universities?
What the fuck is wrong with people.....Im ready for NCAA to drop The Death Penalty on these schools (see SMU)....what more heinous crimes....lack of univerity control.

A longtime assistant basketball coach at Syracuse has been accused by two former ballboys of molesting them while they were children and teenagers. The new round of child sex accusations follow the scandal at Penn State, and threaten to rock major college sports anew. Bernie Fine, a 35-year assistant under legendary Orangemen Coach Jim Boeheim is being investigated by police in the Upstate New York city, following accusations by a now-39-year-old former ballboy and his older stepbrother.Davis told ESPN that Fine molested him beginning in 1984, just before Davis began the seventh grade. Davis said the abuse occurred at Fine's home, at the Syracuse basketball facilities and on road trips. His step-brother, Mike Lang, now 45, told the sports network Fine began molesting when he was in fifth or sixth grade. The shocking accusations aired on ESPN Thursday, with both men going on camera.Boeheim dismissed the accusations as lies."I know this kid, but I never saw him in any rooms or anything," Boeheim told ESPN. "It is a bunch of a thousand lies that he has told. You don't think it is a little funny that his cousin (relative) is coming forward?"He supplied four names to the university that would corroborate his story. None of them did ... there is only one side to this story. He is lying."Davis said he reported the abuse to Syracuse police in 2003, but was told the statute of limitations had expired. The police chief at the time was a former Syracuse basketball player. The explosive charges follow the scandal at Penn State's football program, where a longtime assistant under Joe Paterno is accused of molesting several boys over a long period of time and school officials are accused of covering it up. -
THE4RINGZI agree that we are only seeing the begining of people coming forward at various schools.

NCAA has no say in this.1_beast;977711 wrote:Im ready for NCAA to drop The Death Penalty on these schools (see SMU)....what more heinous crimes....lack of univerity control. -

Actually you are wrong. While the NCAA has no say in the criminal charges, they do have the ability to condemn the University for lack of institutional control amongst other things.dlazz;977745 wrote:NCAA has no say in this. -

They'd only drop the hammer for lack of institutional control if there were a competitive advantage/cheating going on.1_beast;977751 wrote:Actually you are wrong. Molesting little boys is neither. -

Unless you can prove a coverup by athletic department personnel, the NCAA can't/won't do anything.1_beast;977751 wrote:Actually you are wrong. As far as this story, it seems fishy to me. So after 35 years you decide to come forward after another big scandal? Hmmmm. -
THE4RINGZ
Are you 100% sure on that? My interpetation of lack of instituational control is that it is limited to violations against NCAA policies. Ergo the OSU case being charged with lack of instituational control: the lacked control as an organization to adhere to NCAA rules. I am not sure if lack of instituational control charges can be leveled against something involving criminal activity.1_beast;977751 wrote:Actually you are wrong. Child molestation is certainly worse than illegal recruits/booster payments. I say KILL.THEM.WITH.FIRE. -

I agree but it is outside the jurisdiction of the NCAA to administer punishment in these cases.1_beast;977760 wrote:Child molestation is certainly worse than illegal recruits/booster payments. I say KILL.THEM.WITH.FIRE. -
1_beastThe "Lack of Control" falls into the criminal activity, hence the reason that the "house cleaning" is going on. Termination of Coaches as well as Administartion (people in charge of "institutional control")...!!!
Did the AD or President commit molestation? Did they fail to do their respective jobs? Whos in charge of the University? -

I don't think anyone disagrees with this.1_beast;977760 wrote:Child molestation is certainly worse than illegal recruits/booster payments. I say KILL.THEM.WITH.FIRE. -

The NCAA isn't the FBI. They're the National Collegiate Athletic Association. I went ahead and bolded the keyword for you. -

WebFireSo they are going to do an audit. But if the find no bylaws broken, then not much they can do.

1_beastLOL....Michigan still sucks

Dr Winston O'BoogieThis sounded fishy to me too, especially in light of the timing. ESPN reported that the guy told Syracuse police in 2003 and that they told him no dice since the statute of limitations had passed. Well, that made me pause for a little bit (that this wasn't the first time he reported it), but I don't know. If it happened, it should have been reported. If it didn't, what a horrible thing to do to someone's character.

I will say that the NCAA could do whatever the hell it wants. But if they did something, it would be unprecedented.1_beast;978240 wrote:LOL....Michigan still sucks
There, now you can't say "I told you so" if it happens. -
vball10setI'm not so sure about the validity of these accusations. Could this my be a "copy cat" move to cash in on the heightened awareness due to the PSU saga? As O'Boogie said, something just ain't right.
