I'd love to come, but unfortunately I no longer live in Ohio.

Yeah I think Sleeper is wrong on this, but you basically just explained what a salaried worker does. You could change afghanistan to walmart or mcdonald's and it is still true.

And yes I worked those hours in Afghanistan as well...

His interest waned the minute he found out that Jerry Sandusky most likely wasnt going to be making an appearance.

The guys worked with are very, very humble, and have tons of humility. They don't think they deserve to be getting all the praise of Veterans day, and when we worked last year on that day, we took a few Vietnam Vets to Denny's for breakfast, and I thought they (the old guys) were going to cry right then and there. I didn't join because it was the only option I had, I joined because I wanted to. Some people get off at the fact that they're a regular ole Joe Smith who doesn't mean squat to this world, and they need to over emphasize others actions.
That's pretty awesome man I wasn't trying to say anyone on here did join because there was nothing else just in my exprience many of those I know who are joining do. I know many old Vets who are like the Vietnam vets you described. It's mostly just younger guys I see who go to the military acting as if they should be praised and treated special for doing so. My GFs dad served in the Air Force and Army. Veterans Day was our 6 month anniversary we still took him and her mom out for dinner. I also have a brother-in-law who is station in Turkey for the Air Force and I got the chance to skype with him and my sister for a bit.

If I'm not afraid of bullets, I'm definitely not afraid of 2 disabled war vets. My uncle got in a car crash and has no legs. He was an accountant. Maybe he should have joined the military so he wasn't a casualty of doing his other job.
sounds like he should have paid attention in driver's ed. i figured an accountant making cash money would be smarter than that.

If you want, we can smoke a joint over that discussion. Just dont shoot me.

There are asshole in the service without question .. but then again there is fraging also :D

I will teach you how to "shotgun" that way the gun is use for a better reason :)

I appreciate the job they do, just like I appreciate the guy who makes my coffee in the morning, or the firefighter down the street saving cats. I'm just speaking about reality, instead of being hoodwinked into pretending they are special.
This is trolling at its finest. A+ and reps.

Can you provide the FMV for having your face 6 inch from a boob trap that the FNG ( ****ing new guy) stepped on
How about those three short mortar rounds in the middle of a night log site that some had to disarm what the FMV for that task
Let not forget the 240 day a year in a hostil combat situation (potentially shot at) I'm sure what the a public pay scale for that is.

We are not special we just do the job that others only dream about..
I wouldn't mind having my face that close to a boob trap. Trapped with boobs? That's the dream job that I dream about.

I'm not in the military. I'm just a decent human being. It's funny that everyone agrees on here, but you're the odd one out? Do you not find that odd? With your disgusting way of thinking I'm sure you're 100% sure of the fact that you're right anyway.

Other people agree with me. I don't know where you are getting that from.

Regardless, something being popular doesn't make it right.

    ????

We've establish that some want to celebrate the day recognizing veterans and some don't. Is it really a right or wrong position?

Enough people wanted to celebrate them as did enough wanting to celebrate janitors. No one is forced to do either.

The overall idea is right, but your examples suck. Most Wal-mart and McDonalds employees are paid hourly, so they would get overtime for working the 24 hours shifts.

Good post. It's not really a right/wrong matter.

And yes, everyone you know is going to say they joined for a purpose. They can say whatever they want to justify it, but the reality is completely different. It's like "Oh crap, I can't do anything with my life and I don't want to admit it, so I'll just pretend I want to do something bigger(whatever "bigger" means) so my friends don't think I'm a loser". That's the reality, anyway you spin it.
    Again this is false.

You're arguing as if everybody makes the decision because they have no other choice.

Pat Tillman was making a pretty good living before going to the military, yes? He sacrificed his current lifestyle, did he not?

Again, 3 of my cousins who are in the military were college graduates. One got out of college making 100K a year as a pharmacist and he still chose to join the military.

People do make sacrifices upon joining the military. Even if your life is in shambles, there are still jobs in retail, food, etc, that probably offer comparable salary and far less risk.

These are all cops out for real reasons. You're cousin hated his job as a pharmacist and wanted the easy way out. The other two cousins probably couldn't get a job outside of cleaning toilets.

This is an argument you won't win, nice try though.
