Bigger sports story - Tiger or JoePa?

  • gorocks99
Tiger's fall from grace, or Joe Pa's fall from grace?
  • vball10set
    wow--no choice for equally big?

Tiger could right the ship. JoePa is done.

Who is this Grace girl.. She must be huge.

    I hope joepa doesn't break a hip.

Interesting question. I say JoePa because he protected a child rapist, which is beyond comprehension.

Tiger was just a horny dude doing what I imagine most pro athletes do.

My friend was arguing Tiger because he's a bigger name (internationally)

This is really tough, and a great poll question--reps. At the time, Tiger's Thanksgiving Day meltdown was a blindside and a total shock and surreal, whereas even though PSU's (ie JoePa's) situation was a shock as well, it was disgusting and disturbing. Both were/are BIG STORIES, so I call it a draw.

This is a good way to look at it.

I do think Tiger was definitely hurt in the process. He lost big bucks. He got some back. He fell from grace, no doubt.

On the flip side, JoePa and Penn State are going down -- there are many parties responsible for this mess. Unfortunately, a lot of it will all be given to JoePa and he isn't solely responsible. JoePa had a legacy for 40 years. Tiger's doesn't compare to that. His name may internationally, but JoePa's is "football" and it is America -- that may be enough to hurt him the most.

And like thedynasty said, one situation is a horny young golfer and the other is years of a cover-up of arguably the most heinous act ever. While I don't excuse Tiger, his situation happens WAY more than JoePa's situation.

Tigers story was big because it was entertaining... his transgressions were relatively harmless.

The story about PSU is big because of what the subject matter is and the institution involved. The transgressions of those involved with this were absolutely devastating to numerous children.

You really find this as an interesting question?

    JoePa for sure.

Without question JoePa. JoePa worked 40+ years building a reputation and legendary status. He protected a child rapist. Harm was inflicted on countless victims.

Tiger's indiscretions didn't involve physical harm (except when he got hit with a golf club) on anyone and minor children weren't getting butt raped. Besides the emotional trauma on his wife, no one was harmed.

Tiger had sex with adult, consenting women.

JoePa was involved with covering up homosexual pedophilic rape.

If the Penn St thing eventually leads to the murder - for - hire killing of a Pennsylvania DA to cover -up a Rich Old Boys Pedophile Network this could be a bigger story than OJ & Tiger combined.

Joe Paterno is the bigger story, IMO. He's been there since 1950... longer than MY DAD has been alive. I (and most those I know) have never known PSU without Paterno. So simply him retiring would have been a huge story; but combine that with the scandal, the magnitude (number of PSU people fired/resigning), and the severity of the accusations... it's a bigger story. Tiger Woods was world-class golfer who cheated on his wife, got outed, and then started sucking it up on the golf course.

Not only is this a very sad situation. It pisses me off that Joe Pa also bests Woody in one more thing. This Makes a punch in the gut look a little irrelevant doesn't it?

    Zwick said it best.

...Joe Pa doing nothing is beyond my comprehension but this piece of $hit

Mike McQuery who may or may not have saw this as his way to move into the HC job by keeping his mouth shut once Joe retired is the bigger story. He witnessed the act by his own admission and did what? "Called his Daddy" and then went and told Joe who also did nothing. Are you kidding me? Look at the size of him! He played football at Penn State and did NOTHING to stop a 10 year old from being raped! I hope this A$$hole gets fired as well and then is dragged into civil court like the rest of these idots becuase they made the choice to cover this crap up instead of maning up, reporting it, so that puke Sandusky would be behind bars by now.

    They ALL sicken me!
    F Penn State!

Hey, Woody hit him in the throat. I mean it still pales in comparison, but it's better than the gut.

Sandusky hit 'em in the throat too...

I could not have said it better, myself.
  • gorocks99
I was more removing myself from the situation itself and focusing on which is a bigger "media" story ... obviously the Penn State case is much, much worse.

This is no longer a sports story. The mere fact that the people involved were in the sports world is being dwarfed by the unthinkable nature of the acts.

The only thing that makes it a sports story in my mind is how sport is impacted by it.

The world of golf was impacted by Tiger's absence. I don't yet know how the college football landscape will change because of these idiots.
