2009 (so far....haven't seen some that haven't come out in theaters or on DVD yet)
Best Movie - Up
Honorable Mention - Star Trek, The Hangover, Taken, Watchmen, District 9
Possible contenders (when I see them) - Inglorious Basterds (haven't seen it yet), The Road (GREAT book by Cormac McCarthy, guy who wrote No Country...), The Lovely Bones (Another GREAT book + direction by Peter Jackson = potentially amazing movie)
Best Male Acting Performance of the Decade
Daniel Day-Lewis as Daniel Plainview in There Will Be Blood
An otherwise slow movie (to say the least), Day-Lewis is absolutely mesmerizing in this movie. I can't really put my finger on what it is about him in the movie, but his performance just sucks you in and doesn't let you go until the movie is over, by which time you're kind of wondering what the movie was even about. The "I drink YOUR milkshake!!!" scene is unbelievably weird and memorable. I like to rewatch this movie just to see that scene.
Best Female Acting Performance of the Decade
Ellen Burstyn as Sarah Goldfarb in Requiem for a Dream
Definitely my favorite female performance of all time. While the movie (both plot-wise and direction-wise) stands up very well on its own, Burstyn's performance puts this movie over the top. She is absolutely heartbreaking in this movie, and its hard to not feel bad for the character, even though you know its a movie. A very underrated actress, and the fact that she lost out on the Oscar to that wooden actress Julia Roberts is highway robbery.
How do you not win an Oscar for this performance: -
Yama HamaTransformers was awful. Same typical Michael Bay bullshit, different day. Doesn't even deserve an honorable mention.
-
Mooney44Cards
Ya.....but Optimus Prime. :sYama Hama wrote: Transformers was awful. Same typical Michael Bay bullshit, different day. Doesn't even deserve an honorable mention. -
bigdaddy2003Inglorious Basterds shouldn't be on the list IMO.

Mulva2000
Best Movie - Requiem for a Dream
Honorable Mention - O Brother Where Art Thou, Gladiator
2001
Best Movie - Memento
Honorable Mention - Donnie Darko, Black Hawk Down, Training Day
2002
Best Movie - Road to perdition
Honorable Mention - Gangs of New York, Insomnia
Never saw Chicago
2003
Best Movie - City of God
Honorable Mention - Kill Bill: Vol. 1
Weakest year of the decade.
2004
Best Movie - Kill Bill 2
Honorable Mention - Million Dollar Baby, Anchorman, Collateral
2005
Best Movie - Crash
Honorable Mention - Munich, A History of Violence, Sin City, Palindromes, Grizzly Man
Maybe my favorite year for movies of the decade.
2006
Best Movie - Little Miss Sunshine
Honorable Mention - Pans Labyrinth, V for Vendetta, The Departed, Children of Men
2007
Best Movie - No Country for Old Men
Honorable Mention - Eastern Promises, 300, Superbad
2008
Best Movie - Slumdog Millionaire
Honorable Mention - Doubt, Gran Torino
2009
Best Movie - Inglourious Basterds
Honorable Mention - The Hangover
There are a ton of movies from 2007-2009 I haven't seen (There Will Be Blood, Juno, Michael Clayton, Frost/Nixon, Dark Knight, Up, Iron Man, etc.)
Best Male Acting Performance of the Decade
Denzel Washington in Training Day.
Runner ups: Russell Crowe in Gladiator, Daniel Day Lewis in Gangs of New York, Philip Seymour Hoffman in Capote
Best Female Acting Performance of the Decade
Ellen Burstyn in Requiem for a Dream
Runner Up: Naomi Watts in 21 grams
And for the record, I hated the Lord of the Rings series and I'm not a fan of superhero movies, hence no Spiderman or Batman. -
Mooney44CardsMulva,
Check out Michael Clayton ASAP. Amazing movie. Was THIS close to putting it as best movie of 07.
Glad you share the appreciation for Ellen Burstyn. Just watched the movie tonight on Bluray for the first time and was in awe again at the scene that I posted. -
Upper90I think Precious was by far the best movie I've seen this year alone. I was really surprised by the performances in it.
Mo'Nique is actually a frontrunner for the best supporting actress Oscar, which I think is pretty cool, given her awful body of work, but she really would have earned it in this role. -
Mulva
Will do. I'm a big Clooney fan. Not sure why I've never gotten around to seeing it. That, the Wrestler, and Dark Knight are all on my to-watch list over the next couple of weeks.Mooney44Cards wrote: Mulva,

The Wrestler was very good. And it was good to see Darren Arronofsky take on such a different project like this. He also went outside of his normal moviemaking habits in the movie. Its no Requiem but its very good.Mulva wrote:
