What's up with Mario/Luigi costumes this year?

  I noticed an unusually high amount (both over the weekend and on facebook) of girls who dressed up as either Mario or Luigi this year for Halloween...
  
  Anyone else note this phenomenon?
  
  
  Or were there any other trends you noticed (besides the normal slutty cops/nurses/maids etc.).

  The best I saw was a few years ago at ou and they carried a boom box around the whole time only moving during the Dananana part

  yeah saw a few mario and luigi. also saw a few rosie the riveters that seemed to kind of a new one.

  Just a bunch of Jersey Shore costumes.

  Home Improvement was around way before Castaway.

  I saw a bunch of Red Power Rangers this year as well as the Mario/Luigi costumes. Kinda made me glad because me and my GF were thinking of going as a Red Ranger/Sailor Moon to bring back the old cartoons.
  
  Also I already got my costume for next year. While shopping for my outfit this year at goodwill I found an Average Joes T-shirt for a buck.
