Your wife is not more safe because she's on the other side of you in relation to the road. What if a mugger comes up from the side she's on? Oh my!jmog;936681 wrote:So everyone who walks closer to the street than their girl is a moron?
Interesting, I am a moron I guess...either that or I value my wife's safety more than my own.
You aren't a moron for walking closer to the street than your wife. You'd be a moron if you did so because you thought it made her any more safe. -

I hold the door open for women, will pull their chair out, etc but that sort of thing is dumb and almost insulting to the woman. Plus a car veering off the road onto the sidewalk is one of the things I'm least worried about in life. Probably should walk 100ft away from your wife and hold a metal rod up in the air to draw the lightning towards yourself at all times if you're going to be worried about shit like that. -

Actually it does...ts1227;936689 wrote:Not a moron, but it's not like it makes you any more or less polite either.
Look up some old etiquette rules and you will see that it most definitely is a "polite" gesture.
A for instance...

Ever heard of "its the thought that counts"? That is true in most cases of chivalry and etiquette.I Wear Pants;936770 wrote:Your wife is not more safe because she's on the other side of you in relation to the road. What if a mugger comes up from the side she's on? Oh my!

You don't open the door for a date because you think she will really have a problem opening that door, you do so because it is polite and proper "etiquette".
You don't walk closer to the road because you truly think it makes the woman safe, you do it for the "thought that counts" idea.
Man I wish people actually had to take etiquette classes in high school, or at least had parents that taught them. -
