ESPN's Renee

Fab1bStory of transsexual tennis player Renee Richards very interesting so far just starting watching.
-
Fab1bAnyone watch this? It was actually very good IMO. Crazy but good.
-
karen lotzdidn't watch this one but am looking forward to the "Dotted Line" one that's airing in a week.
-
sonofsamThats a little weird. I think I will pass.
-
Fab1bAs I get older I start to see the human side of people. Growing up I thought it was a "sin" to be gay or it was choice people made, etc...now I have gay friends and it doesn't bother me what people are or their sexual preference or hell if they want to change their sex. Sure I'll joke about it but at the end of the day everyone just wants to be happy and if that is what does it for them so be it! I thought this was a very good look into Renee Richards and humanity.

dazedconfusedit did look interesting so i'll probably catch a rerun at some point. hopefully it sheds some light on the whole transgender thing because i've never really understood it

...I watched some of it last night and the dude...errr shim... had a tough way to go for sure back in the 70's and it's pretty sad that NOW at her age, she seems more like an old man than an old lady:rolleyes:Fab1b;922409 wrote:As I get older I start to see the human side of people. I'm not religious in the least hence sin is in quotes as in a bad thing. I didn't understand it is what I was saying. -

Yeah everyone just wants to be happy... no matter who it effects in the process? "Renee" said he was having these "women feelings" in the early sixties and was doing some hormonal therapy yet he decided to go ahead and get married and father a child ANYWAY in 1969??? Now that child has been dealing with the trauma of it his entire life.Fab1b;922409 wrote:As I get older I start to see the human side of people. What "renee" did was selfish and inhumane. But hey as long as it makes him/her happy, who cares right? -

I never said it doesn't come without a price. If I want to do something in life that others don't agree with or it may hurt some, however it is what I want to do then that decision is mine to make alone just as it was this persons. I do feel bad for the child and yes "he" did fool people and it came at a huge cost! I am talking from a stand point that I just don't care nor does it affect me one way or another if one is gay, transexual, transgender, etc..no it's not my thing but I don't care if it is your thing. I used to care like I said because I didn't understand how someone could go that route! -

Sorry imo once he made that choice to get married and father a child, knowing what he knew, he loses that right. IMO it borders on criminal behavior.Fab1b;922530 wrote: If I want to do something in life that others don't agree with or it may hurt some, however it is what I want to do then that decision is mine to make alone just as it was this persons. -
Fab1bCriminal behavior??? Really so any marriage that ends and ruins a child would be considered that?? I mean sometimes people just split and their child can't handle that and grows up into a life of shit. Criminal? People turn out not to be who they thought they were all the time in life, especially in marriages/relationships!

Your missing the point. "renee" knew he wasn't who he thought he was for a long time then he made the decision to bring other unsuspecting lives into it.Fab1b;922543 wrote:Criminal behavior??? No I am not, most people know who they are but they try to live the life that society or friends and family deems acceptable! Thus when they decide to let their true colors show at some point in their life people around them get hurt! -
oberhausSpeaking from experience, it is a very selfish thing to do when kids are involved. Although said person seems very happy now, he/she no longer has a relationship with his daughter.
My half sister no longer has a dad. Hasnt for over 10 years. It was very very hard on her. She even had to switch schools. Decisions like that dont just affect the individual making the choice. -
Fab1b^and you are 100% right like I said it doesn't come without cost! However society has deemed it not right for people to live their true life and it is sad!

Is that cost worth it in your mind?Fab1b;922599 wrote:^and you are 100% right like I said it doesn't come without cost! However society has deemed it not right for people to live their true life and it is sad! -
Fab1bSkyhook79;922618 wrote:Is that cost worth it in your mind?
That isn't my decision to make since I am not battling any of that inner turmoil. If I was say a man that wanted to be a woman I don't know what I would do! I don't think anyone who isn't dealing with that issue can really know. It is that person's and theirs alone. They have to weigh the results of their actions but I cannot answer that question. I guess what I am trying to say about this issue is who am I to judge Renee Richards? -
oberhausSkyhook79;922618 wrote:Is that cost worth it in your mind?
I don't think if you ask him/her if it was worth it he/she might have a two part answer. I'm sure he is heartbroken over not having a relationship with my sister and his two other children. But he would also say he finally feels normal. But feeling normal has made him an outcast to his family, friends, and job. -

IMO, there is no question that "it" is MOST DEFINITELY a choice.Fab1b;922409 wrote:As I get older I start to see the human side of people. On topic, I did not see the show, but would watch if I was passing by the channels to see what it was about.
