The return of Mythbusters
-
thavoiceLast night was the return of the long running series.
Anyone else a fan? In watching some of the old eps thie past few days I almost forgot how hot Carrie was!
Man oh man.
What was your favorite myth they tested?
I think mine was the one about how swimming underwater can protect you from pretty much most small arms fire! -
Fab1bLove the show, have it on my DVR hadn't had a chance to watch the new episode yet. They have done so many cool things not sure I could narrow down a fav.
-
SykotykMy favorite was shooting the chickens (or was it turkeys) at the fuselage only to find out that they didn't have 'birdstrike' grade glass.
-
said_aouitaThey turned an old camaro into the bat mobile. tested the grapling hook out the side, helping with making turns.
Always thought that was a cool one.
Real cars/semi trucks controlled by remote, add explosions and destruction. All win. -
gutThere's been so many good episodes. It's rare to have one fall flat.
But it has slipped a bit since they've pretty much done all the classic "urban legend" tests. A lot of their tests these days are just really out there, hurting for material. But some classics are the ninja skills - catching an arrow, dodging a bullet....Then you have Robin Hood splitting an arrow. Firing a bullet through a sniper scope, or into the barrel of another gun. Folding paper more than 7 times.
Making a boat out of ductape was cool. So was the "death ray". And any show using thermite is always good. -
thavoiceI remember a baseball episode.
One of the myths was about a baseball and how far it travels in certain elements. I thik they were testing it regarding how far the ball travels at higher altitudes. They use different baseballs that were put into a humidor, normal atmospheric pressure, and ones that were in a more humid environment.
They also tested the myth about is it faster to run or slide into a base. (Typically that is reserved for a discussion at first base when you are allowed to run past the base). That one really sucked. FIrst off, the cast had to be tought how to slide. I figured the tech guy wouldnt know how, but Tory seems like a normal guy but the fucker didnt know how to slide and was brutal.
But anyways...they tested if it was faster to slide or not to a base. BUt......they messed it up because they didnt allow the runner to run past the bag. They tested how fast it was to slide, or for a runner to basically be able to slow down and stay on the base.
That was a WTF moment. -
oberhausExplosions. The sound the cement truck made when detonated.

gutI forgot about the cement truck! That one was pretty good, too.
The interwoven telephone books was pretty impressive, too. I think they ended up getting a couple of tanks to be able to pull the things apart.
Or how about the one where they used ping pong balls to float a sunken boat? -
OSHI love the show! Too bad I don't have any cable to watch it.
I cannot pick out a favorite either...there are too many good ones. I am hooked every time I see it on tv (at my parents' or in-laws'). I will watch them no matter how many times I've seen them before. -

thavoiceYou sure that is her and not a photoshop?
There are times I am very surprised, like the one with the phone books that simply had their pages interlaced together.
They dismissed pretty much all the ninja ones.
This past week the wanted to check out if a bullet shot would land at the same time as a bullet dropped. Everyone pretty much accepts it as true but it really is never shown any proof of it, but they did it on the show. Impressive.
I always love how they blow movie myths up.
Dont forget the one about how to get out of a car that is being submerged in the water. -
gut
Of course, waiting for the car to fill up with water only works if you go into a shallow spot (although I guess most places you'd be in deeper water you're probably dead on impact).thavoice;917202 wrote: Dont forget the one about how to get out of a car that is being submerged in the water.
I think even some of the obvious ones, like the bullet hitting the ground at the same time, are just cool to see how they set it up and test everything.
Seems like they have absolutely great jobs. Side note - Grant built the robot on the Craig Ferguson show. -

A number of years ago during a bad thunderstorm went to pull over into a parking lot. It was raining so hard that person didnt know what to do. They pulled into the what they thought was the lot but it was really a boat ramp (if you saw the area...ya could kinda see how it happens possibley) and they drove down into the water at the boat ramp, apparently paniced and couldnt get out and a few people died.gut;917215 wrote:Of course, waiting for the car to fill up with water only works if you go into a shallow spot (although I guess most places you'd be in deeper water you're probably dead on impact).

The key would be to keep calm. easier said than done though. The car doesnt plunge like a rock. ANother option was to simply roll down the window. It worked that couple of times they tried it. -

krambman^^^ That's awesome!
I think my favorite was probably when they made a lead balloon fly and the escape from Alcatraz. -
WebFireHopefully they stop the show after this. I can see all the sissies doing it though.

Fab1bWhy stop it I love the show
