Creatine

  • baseball4
I have been doing a cross-training workout for the last 3-4 months. I have dropped about 20 lbs doing so. I have been drinking a post workout protein shake that has 28g of protein per scoop.

I have always believed the rumors about creatine and how bad it is for your body. But after reading more into it I have become comfortable with giving it another try. I just DO NOT want creatine with a bunch of extra additives that have no proven use in your body's system.

So my question here is: Is there a creatine I can take that is "basic" and safe, but will not pack on pounds? I'm trying to keep slimming down, but I would like to add creatine for the extra push. Is looking for a creatine that won't bulk me up a long shot? Or even possible?

    Thanks in advance!

The protein I use (Body Fortress) has creatine in it. You can get it at Wal-Mart and it's cheap as hell.

Best advice I can give on supplements is if you have to ask about x substance due to possible detrimental impacts on the body don't take it or if you insist wait until you are completely educated and physically ready for it. Three months may seem like a long time but if I were you I'd continue a good diet/exercise plan with protein powder until you have reached your wall and then consider it. As for creatine itself, I've taken it and gotten minimal results and never really considered it to have adverse effects. I stopped with it after about a month and went back to eating a banana and orange juice before working out, worked fine for me.

Creatine isn't something that magically makes you bigger. Just helps with recovery.

The boost of energy is why most people I know use it.

Phosphocreatine is an energy store that your muscles use when they run out of energy for quick bursts. This is quickly converted into ATP, an energy source your muscles use to contract. Taking a supplement can help you add to this store, but isn't a miracle drug to get huge fast. You still have to put in the effort and make sure you drink plenty of H[SUB]2[/SUB]O

You pack on pounds by eating more, not taking supplements.

If you don't want to "pack on pounds" and want to keep "slimming down" then DON'T take creatine. Creatine is used for adding muscle mass not an "extra push." If you want an extra push, take Jack3D, Assault, NO Xplode or another nitric oxide product. The premise behind creatine is to add size.

When I took creatine, I noticed I could do almost as much weight and as many reps on my 4th set as my 1st, which is probably why it is so effective at adding muscle mass/strength.

I never bought into all the negative effects, but admittedly did not research it like you. I know most of the deaths were related to wrestlers who were cutting weight, and you need to remain hydrated on creatine.

The only side effect I noticed from creatine was the extra retention of water weight. I would say this could easily add 5-10 lbs of "bloat" (again, making it that much tougher and more dangerous for wrestlers already cutting dangerous amounts of weight and dehydrating) and may not be what you want if you're trying to lean out. You will drop that water weight quickly and easily after stopping creatine.

This is my thoughts as well. I got into lifting after my last year in college and took creative as well as some other supplements. I absolutely noticed a difference in my stamina and recovery. I would bench about 5 sets and on my first I would start at 225 and on my 5 th or 6th set I would go back down to 225 and do more reps than my first.

Be sure to drink lots of water while taking creatine.

Are you sure he wasn't taking anything else? Sounds a lot like pro hormones.
