I'm never going to 5 Guys on Polaris again

  • LJ
Haven't used my debit card in days, 20 minutes after going to 5 guys to get some fries, someone charged $1,000 to my bank account. The girl from Huntington won't confirm, but she hints at the account # was most likely stolen from there.

    Dude that sucks!!

Booo! But now I am in the mood for a burger and fries. Thanks.

This is why I always use cash.
Will they take care of this or are you SOL?

They have the best burger money can buy.

Man I'm sorry to hear that, especially this close to Christmas.

    Fair Credit Billing Act (FCBA)

According to the FCBA, the maximum liability for unauthorized use of a person’s credit card is $50.

If an individual reports the loss before the cards are used, the card issuer cannot hold the cardholder responsible for any unauthorized charges. However, if a criminal uses a person’s cards before they are reported lost or stolen, the most a person will owe is $50 per card.

Furthermore, if the loss involves a person’s credit card number and not his/her card, the cardholder is not liable for unauthorized use.

Yeah, Huntington actually called me and had already cancelled my card. Obviously I didn't spend $3.50 on Polaris parkway then get my card swiped 6 times in Scottsdale Arizona, so they caught it. They are getting me to Customer Service to dispute it right now, but I will call my Private Banker in the morning and he will probably have my money back to me by the end of tomorrow.

The fuckers made a fake card with my account # and everything.

This, I'll get my money back, but customer service is slow at 5pm, lol.

That sucks, but I now know what Im having for lunch or dinner tomorrow!

I wouldn't assume it was taken from 5 Guys. Could have been stolen from a purchase you made months ago.

It sounds like there was a series of them. So the girl was hinting to me, but wasn't allowed to say. She said some numbers were compromised through a local vendor today from POS transactions.

Ahhh then I would suspect the same thing then. Gotcha. Sorry didn't know that tidbit of info. That makes total sense then.

Hustlers are everywhere, bro. Hustlers are everywhere.

This is why I only pay with STRAIGHT CASH AND CASHIER'S CHECKS.

    Like a boss.

Are you sure you didn't teleport to Arizona just to get $1000 for free.

    Glad your getting it back.
    Hope they catch these bastards.

Whaa.... I can get a better burger at Wendy's for 99 cents. The fries on the other hand...

This will change the way I handle money. I guess I need to get a Credit Card for small transactions and use cash for everything else from now on. I don't have a credit card :-\

You can process your debit card as a credit card. At least that was my understanding when they ask debit or credit.

Dumbest thing I have heard today. 5 Guys trumps the red headed slut any day of the week.

same thing happened to me two weeks ago...fucking hassle and a half man...charge was like 400 bucks at a Wal Mart in Tucson...I was like wtf, how does someone at Wal Mart not look for ID when someone is trying to buy that much worth of shit?

Having your credit card number stolen is the easiest form of identity theft to fix. A few months ago my dad discovered that his credit score was shot because someone had gotten hold of his social security number and signed up for an electric bill in Chicago. My parents live in Idaho. He went to get a loan and found out that he had a $1800 default on his credit. And he had no way of knowing without checking his credit report since it wasn't with one of his credit cards or anything. He had to file a police report in Idaho where he lives and in Chicago and it took almost two months for the default to be taken off his record and for his credit to be restored.

Wow.. I use my card for almost everything (HATE carrying cash, mainly because my friends are bums,) but now I think I'll reconsider some.

At the store I work at, we can lose our job if we forget to ask someone for their ID when they pay with credit. The first time we forget, it's a warning. The second time is termination.

I don't see why employees can't take the 10 seconds to check for an ID, especially when it's a huge purchase.
