Carfax...Has anyone used it?

  • Captain Cavalier
Has anyone used it? I'm thinking of trying it but I need a report quick. Do they send them right away thru e-mail or would I have to wait on snail mail?

It comes up on the screen right away

I've used them at dealers. And by "used" I mean the guy handed one to me right away without me asking.

Here is a question. My truck has gone through hell that is for sure but nothing I have ever documented outside repair shop items. I have had friends fix so many things, ect....so my question is how accurate are these really. I mean if the car was wrecked but never documented with insurance, police, etc...the person just left the scene and fixed it themselves, no way for carfax to know.

Carfax is actually self aware. It knows.

    Thanks guys.

I'm assuming that any issues would probably be...

1 List of how many owners...due to registration and VIN # required.

    2 Warranty work

3 Any accident that has a POLICE report.

A lot of bodyshops are linked to carfax as well. Typically anything big enough to affect the quality of the vehicle is going to be repaired through insurance, have a police report, or at the very least have extensive work that is most likely done at a shop that is linked to carfax.

Where you run into problems are flood cars.

Demand only CarFax do not settle for some other report that the dealer comes up with . Dealer supplies the Carfax or walk away ,,,,,,,, bottom line

I tell them up front my demands so they know and there is no question once I see something I like..

Thing is, I'm looking at a private sell.

    No dealer involved.

That's why I was thinking of getting one.

Just used it. Purchased a car from out of state and wanted to make sure everything was in order. Car should be delivered in the next few days.

I've been told autocheck is actually better than carfax...the enthusiast site I bought my BMW off of last month swears by it!
