Computer Connectivity Help
-
derek bomarOk... I need help.
I have a Sony Vaio that I have had for about 1.5 years, and all of a sudden I can only connect to the internet if I am at home or if I am somewhere I have connected before. When I try and connect to a new place, it shows the available connection, I click it, it says I am connected but with "no internet access" ...each time all of my friends have had their laptops (see: fantasy drafts) and have been able to connect, and I have to scream my picks across a table. I am getting frustrated. I am not sure what the fuck is wrong, and thought maybe one of you guys would have the answer. Please drop some knowledge and I will rep the shit out of you.

joebaseballI'll assume you are using Win 7. Download the NIC driver from the manufacturers website (not Sony's) and uninstall the current one. Install the new driver. This should fix the issue.

WebFire
If he can connect to other wireless connections, this isn't the problem.joebaseball;884488 wrote:I'll assume you are using Win 7. Download the NIC driver from the manufacturers website (not Sony's) and uninstall the current one. Install the new driver. This should fix the issue.
Generally when you can connect but have no internet, it means the router itself doesn't have internet. But you say others can get on the web with the same connection? -

I had the same issue, there wass a Win 7 update that corrupts the NIC driver. Like joebaseball said, try downloading the NIC driver from a computer with Internet access on a flash drive and then uninstall it and install if from the flash drive. FYI NIC is a network interface card.WebFire;884576 wrote:If he can connect to other wireless connections, this isn't the problem.

WebFireWell, worth a try I guess. But if the driver was effed, he wouldn't be able to connect to any wireless connections.
