92.3 The Fan Cleveland

Kiley and Booms started the day off, they handed it to Andy Baskin and Reggie Rucker. Adam the Bull and Dustin Fox are coming up later in the day. It is a day of excitement and chock full of guests as 92.3 WFAN looks to stack the deck for their first day on the air in Cleveland. The story isn’t even close to being told until a couple months from now when they fill the ad inventory and the overload of guests wears off. When these hosts get into the grind of hosting a show for multiple hours every day and the newness wears off, what will the Cleveland sports talk landscape look like? You can’t tell this story without looking squarely at WKNR. Earlier this year, they made the decision to go more local at the expense of the first hour of the Jim Rome show. By extending Rizzo’s show an hour, WKNR gave themselves a significant revenue opportunity. To say that the decision went smoothly would be a lie. Jim Rome himself has complained vocally about it, not to mention his fans.
Rizzo’s show has been under the microscope on Twitter lately as Rizzo has wondered aloud if he should do the show by himself without Aaron Goldhammer and Chris Fedor. Are there any two more controversial personalities than those two in Cleveland sports media right now? Some people love them, and their haters are vocal and fervent. Is that a good thing for the show because it will keep people tuned in for the controversy, or is it something that will drive listeners to the new game at 92.3 WFAN?
I know a lot of people don’t care about sports media. As we’ve been talking about this stuff over the last few weeks, there are plenty of people who are bemoaning the thought of more “banal” sports talk in the world, let alone in place of the last bastion for alternative rock on the Cleveland airwaves. I can’t help but looking forward to see how it shakes out.
It could be a referendum on local vs. national programming as WKNR does battle with Mike & Mike along with Jim Rome. At the same time, WFAN has gone outside the market to bring in Adam the Bull for their most precious time slot to compete with Reghi and Roda in afternoon drive. Granted they paired Adam the Bull with former Buckeye Dustin Fox, but still, it will be interesting to see how it all shakes out after the initial excitement and newness wears off.
In all honesty it will probably be difficult to find a “winner.” People will probably pick and choose their favorite shows and jump back and forth. I still have a tough time believing there won’t be at least a few “casualties” as the competition heats up and these two stations work to get and keep listeners.
Who will be the first to fall, if anyone? -

OneBuckeyeAnyone listen to any shows yet? I am glad there is a WKNR alternative now. I hate listening to Mike and Mike and The really big show if goldhammer is there. I don't mind Reggi but Roda is terrible. Only show I really like on KNR is X's and O's with the pros. Should be interesting so see what the competition brings out in KNR.

THE4RINGZI listen to WKNR all day, Mike and Mike is a good national program (much better than Colin Cowherd who I am sometimes forced to listen to based on my location), I like The Really Big Show. Goldhammer provides some outside the market perspective, I think his opinions are sometimes true yet unpopular with the Cleveland faithful. KNR didn't do themselves nay favors by cutting out the first hour of The Jim Rome Show, sure Rome tends to be an obnoxious ass at times, but overall a very good show. I miss the fist hour and usually can't pull KNR2 in, in my car. R&R is a good show, I think again you have the opinions of someone from outside the market (Rhoda) which brings some balance to the overly homerific cast sports talk radio tends to attract. I agree with the OP X's & o's is probably my favorite show, but I don't catch it all that often because I am done with my day by that time. The new brownshour show should do well for them.

wes_mantoothFedor is awful and enough for me to turn the channel.

RedRider1Listened for a bit this morning. It wasn't bad, just different. Much more relaxed pace than WKNR. Commercials were commercials, no live reads. Thought provoking sports talk....and competition for WKNR. Both things needed in CLE.

What do you want from your sports talk radio? Some guy blowing smoke up your ass telling you the browns are going to win The Super Bowl, or some objective talk from someone like Negative Ned who isn't going to sugar coat the truth?wes_mantooth;876507 wrote:Fedor is awful and enough for me to turn the channel. -
karen lotzanyone blowing anything up mantooth's ass is fine with him. Just ask justin.

Lol...no, he is just bad. hammer doesn't bother me. He sounds like a pompous ass and his voice is annoying.
Also, I am pretty sure every Cleveland host thinks the browns are going to miss the playoffs, so I am pretty sure that your statement is somewhat retarded.
Wait....I had second to think about it....your statement was completely retarded. -
THE4RINGZMy statement is retarded? You are the one who can't except the truth.

What? That the browns are bad. Hate to tell you, but I am a realist. Your reasoning for me not liking fedor is dumb. I love arguing on talk radio....just don't like him. Is he related to you or something? If so, can you tell him to jump off the 480 bridge for me? Thx -
HereticSomeone goes by the name "Adam the Bull"? Compensating for an unloved childhood and adult life?

I'm not sure why someone would get so up in arms about you giving an opinion on whether or not you like a Talk Show. Who Cares? He acts like you can't handle what the host is saying or something. I find this quite odd.wes_mantooth;876585 wrote:What? That the browns are bad. Hate to tell you, but I am a realist. Your reasoning for me not liking fedor is dumb. Nope...I simply find him bad and I turn on satellite radio when he is on. -

I wish.
I actually liked that show on fox that he did with that older guy...Les...I think. -
THE4RINGZHow can you be a "realist" and not like the one guy on the entire station who doesn't see everything from the stand point of a homer?

I stated that I can tolerate hammer. I like brinda....but don't care for the real Homers like munch and reghi. my realist statement was based on your way off observation of the browns. I am truly sorry that I turn the dial when he comes on....but I do the same on fm radio when a bad song comes on. -

agreed. I don't hate Fedor because he is a "realist", I hate him because he sucks at being on the radio.wes_mantooth;876618 wrote:I stated that I can tolerate hammer. THE4RINGZI don't give a fuck what you listen to. That is why there are so many radio stations.
However, you say you like to "argue" about talk radio, but calling names and wishing someone's family member would commit suicide isn't arguing. It shows you can't argue or debate, bring some facts and back them up that is arguing. Name calling and hoping someone dies went out in the fourth grade. -

Disagree on Reghi. I think he's pretty objective but Munch is a homer.wes_mantooth;876618 wrote:I stated that I can tolerate hammer. Agree with this. The morning crew got off to a rough start but I'll continue to listen because I know Chuck Booms and like to see him do well. I liked Dustin Fox and the other guy on my drive home. They had Mark Shapiro on and it was a good listen. I will say they could use a few Trick Bag Punks though.RedRider1;876526 wrote:Listened for a bit this morning. It wasn't bad, just different.
