Upper90He probably had my least favorite solo career out of all of the Beatles (Wellll, except Ringo, though Ringo tried. Oh, did he ever try.), but I think that he actually was killed before he could have the solo impact that I think he would have thrived in. New Wave with John Lennon would have been great. And I could only imagine the kind of songs he'd be writing right now.

Exactly. That's how I found out as well (long before 24 hour news channels, the internet, etc.). While I was a huge Beatles fan, his solo work hadn't really resonanted with me until Double Fantasy and I found I was really enjoying it. A bit less bizarre and more commercially appealing, I guess. Cha'DIchLennon had so many great songs, it is hard for me to pick a favorite. A list of my favorites would have to include Imagine, Instant Karma and Working Class Hero along with several others.

While I appreciated Lennon's talent and the phenomenon of the Beatles, I was never a huge fan.
Even now when I hear "Imagine" and "So This Is Christmas" I just roll my eyes and turn the dial.
It's a sad state of affairs how he met his demise, but I'm not particularly missing his musical - um- "genius." -

Yeah. Sad day in music. I liked the Beatles more than his solo career, but he still had great stuff both with the band and by himself. -

I too remember this day, Big Beatles fan! I saw his exhibit at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, that was moving. Seeing the blood stained clothes and eye glasses made you stop and think about things for a second! -

BlackDogUpper90, I believe Lennon was New Wave before New Wave was New Wave. I'm sure you've heard "Mother," "Cold Turkey" or some of his early stuff with Yoko. Then again, maybe New Wave to you is something different. I always thought of it as a more pop sounding Punk.

Lennon, and the Beatles for that matter, were incredibly overrated. But I do appreciate what they did for music. -
