Verizon Upgrade

  • alwaysawarrior
My current phone sucks. My grandfather is on my parents plan and is eligible for an upgrade. He doesn't care to get one, nor do my parents want to use it. However no one on the plan has a phone requiring a data plan, and obviously the upgrade I would want would require one. So my question is if he gets the phone and switches back to his old one w/i a couple days will they allow him to cancel the data plan right away? I would like to use the upgrade but obviously don't want to carry an extra data plan to do so.

I would suggest man up and get your own phone.

Can he upgrade without switching his phone service?

He would have to upgrade to a data plan, but it wouldn't change anything else. But he would then need to be able to switch back to his old phone and remove the data plan. So the question is if that is possible.

Are you on the same family plan or is it just your grandfather and parents and then you have your own individual plan? I think if you are all on the same plan, you can just use his upgrade. If its at all a possibility, you can add your line onto the parents family plan and then pay them monthly. Would probably save everyone some money.

He can use the upgrade to get the discount on the new phone, if he reactivates his old phone afterwards the data package will come off.

To answer your question, yes you can use his upgrade without making grandpa or grandma get a data package. It would probably be easier to get the phone in a Verizon store so you can explain what you want to do.
