Ironman92I've had roughly 10 ankle sprains on each foot (from mild to severe)....but have not had one since I started jogging a bit about 8 years ago.....well as you can guess a baseball play got the better of me, landed on some uneven ground and it popped pretty good....punched the ground a few times, cussed some, ate some grass then got up and hobbled off the field walking on my own about 100 yards. Drove home......pretty good pain going and iced it on and off until bedtime and mixed in some Ibuprofen. Got up this morning....am walking around (with the typical limp and with my foot angled out for less pain....like I always have done on ankle sprains)....my problem is it almost always bruises up something ugly, but mine still isn't bruising? It feels like all my other sprains except the lack of bruising. All the info I've read says Type 1 or 2 sprain......but I really wish it was bruising.
Yes, I know I should go have an x-ray......any other thoughts. (Figured most of you have/do play sports and have had many such experiences.) -

Belly35Hot and cold contrast bath
Break down: soak your foot (if you have to dip your foot in and out because it hurts OK but try to keep your foot in the water as much as possible)
The lack of showing bruising mean you did not tear or rip the muscle as much but the tendons connection have been damage. Is it swelling a lot?
The idea is to get blood flow to the area .. so with hot / cold contrast bath the muscles will expand and contract with the hot/cold temp. acting like a pump to pump blood to the hurt area and washing out the dried blood to open the flow better..
5 minute hot water as hot as you can handle take it out of the hot and directly into
4 minute cold (ice cold) as much as you can deal with
4 minute hot
3 minute cold
3 minute hot
2 minute cold
2 minute hot
1 minute cold
1 minute hot …. Done -
Tiernan^^^
dumbest thing you can do to a sprain is get more blood (swelling) in the area. Cold only every 20 min. for 1st 48 hrs. I suppose you give kids salt tablets instaed of water on hot days too Belly? sheeesh! -

Have to create circulation and blood to provide healing and clear out the old blood -
Ironman92I iced it for about 25 minutes, then nothing for 25 minutes...then ice for another 25......took a bath as hot as I could stand it......got out and went to bed. I've kept it elevated a lot and had it propped up a touch the whole night sleeping. It is quite swollen and a little yucky to look at for that reason. Minimal bruising so far. Had it brusied like it normally does I wouldn't be worried much if any.
