Is Corn Nutritional?

  • Steel Valley Football
My daughter, two and a half, loves to have a bowl of corn next to a bowl of rice. My son is allergic.

So, my wife suggests that corn has little nutritional value so we should stop altogether. I say she's completely wrong and was surprised at her thinking. I'll google later. Curious as to to what you guys say.

Yes corn is good for you. It doesn't count as a veggie though, she still needs green veggies.

At that age it would be crazy to make her stop eating it, be glad she likes something healthy.

Chances are 95% of what she eats and drinks has corn in already.

Are your kids Asian, with the vegtables and rice?

It's not good for you. It's a vegetable, but its the worst vegetable for you(even worse than potatoes).

There is a reason animals are fed corn right before going to the butcher. It fattens them up.

It comes out looking the same way it went in. That can't be good............

Why doesn't it count as a veggie?

It all depends, how you are eating it?

Dip every bite in butter, smother it in salt, add lard, add sugar, add chips.

Then I would say you are eating it the healthy way and can expect to live to be 41 yrs old.

Do you actually swallow all of that or do you spit some of it back out?

If you are talking about eating actual corn, like fresh corn, then it does have a lot of nutritional value. It has B vitamins, fiber (which most people don't get nearly enough of), and various antioxidants. If you are talking about eating corn chips or corn syrup, your kid might as well eat some dog shit off of a neighbor's lawn.

If the dog shit is as tasty as corn chips, I may have to get a dog.

On a related note: Does anyone else not digest pineapple or lettuce? Both things come out the same way they went in. I mean pineapple makes my love juice tasty for the ladies but.....

Corn is my favorite veggie... However, it does not have a nutritional value whatsoever.

    This is correct.

Let's put it this way, you can eat corn but your body really doesn't utilize it. Not to be crude but next time you take a shit, look in the toilet and see where your corn has been "processed."

All it does is makes you fat and it's why commercially raised vs grassfed beef gets a bad name. The farmers jam the corn down the cattles throat to fatten them up quickly so they can "turn & burn" them and move on to the next cow for processing. This corn lowers the natural Omega 3 levels (good stuff) and raises the Omega 6's (bad stuff).

Actually, it's because there is so much fiber in the skin of a kernal that your body cannot use it all. Next time you have tomato, cut it into tiny chunks with the skin on and swallow them whole, the same thing will happen.

This is the corniest thread I've seen in quite a while.
