When a woman says "My significant other"
-
thavoicedoes that mean:
1. boyfriend/fiance
2. Lesbian girlfriend.
3. professional way to say boyfriend/fiance?
Very, very attractive brunette in our building (yep, fabby...infatuated with them) is here once every week or so. Actually bumped into her and we spoke for a few minutes for the first time. Of course a little bit in the ole "my significant other' comment comes out. Of course, I tune out everything she said after that but stilll......
she gave no name to reference it as a guy or gal...and I was curious... -
thePITmanI'm pretty sure when ANYONE says "significant other" it is a neutral way to mention one's committed relationship partner, be it husband/wife, boyfriend/girlfriend, fiance, etc.
-
gutI think it means "don't hit on me, I'm not interested"
-
TiernanPretentious ass-wipe way to say "Boy friend"...and what gut said.

Oh she is outta my league. No doubt, and she knows it.
I just gots to thinking about it...wonder if she is played for the other team. I guess I can just think that...makes her a bit more sexy. -
Laley23Anyone can say significant other, and it just means their exclusive partner (married, engaged, dating, etc).

really?
no shit?
Didnt know anyone could say it. I asked to see what people thought a woman means when that is said....either a man friend or lezbo friend. -
queencitybuckeyeMy experience has been that homosexuals usually refer to their "partner". My guess would be that she's referring to a boyfriend.
-
gutOther than being pretentious/cute/derogatory I think it's a way for women to make more of their relationship with their boyfriend than it is - it's not a fiancee but it's a SIGNIFICANT other
But I've really never thought about it. Sounds like what you want people to tell you is it means "lesbian partner" so you can go buy some lotion. -
4cards...I'll go with choice # 3
When women say (partner) = (gay girlfriend). -

Pretentious ass wipe way? Someone is irritated. -
IliketurtlesI've always just taken it as #3. Just professional/polite way of saying you are in a relationship with somone of the opposite sex. People who date someone of the same sex generally refer to them as there partner or just say boyfriend/girlfriend.
-
SykotykShe's too depressed to not be in a more committed relationship, so she uses "Significant Other" as a facade to the world. Or, it could be a way of saying, "I'm not interested" without being called if you find out she's not engaged, married, or is considered to be in a relationship and just currently dating. No harm, no foul.
The few lesbians I've talked to have always referred to their SO as simply their girlfriend and leave it a bit ambiguous whether they're lesbians or just straight friends. -
passwordI think she is trying to tell you that she is married to a stud, with a cock the size of a 32 once Louisville Slugger but she is adventurous, as She is also Bisexual and has been having an affair with a Kate Upton look-alike, but recently broke it off when she decided to star in a gangbang video series called chocolate fondue featuring 6 black guys all named horseman.
or she is involved with a guy that she really likes but they are not serious yet. -
dwccrewI told her I didn't want to be that serious, which is why she refers to me as her significant other. I consider her one of my significant manys.

Cat Food Flambe'For my wife and I , "significant other" was more comfortable than referring to my daughter's now-husband as her "boyfriend" when he was in his mid-20's.
Other the other hand, most women don't seem to have any problems with being labeled "girlfriend" well past age 29 (unless they're barking about not being called "wife").
