columbus casino

Windsor will also always be popular with college kids because the drinking and gambling age is 19.

Yea but college kids really don't have the disposable income to really make a difference.

The people of Columbus don't. Something like 70-80% of the population of Franklin County voted against the proposed casino measure when it was on the ballot. Columbus is a nice town that is doing fine financially compared to the rest of the state. It doesn't need a casino.

Also, I live on the west side of town near where they are going to build the casino. It will not do much to revitalize the west end. It will build some new business around 270 and Broad and around 270 and Georgesville.

Yeah I drove past the one in Toledo this past weekend they have some nice progress going Im pretty pumped for them to finish it hate going all the way up to Detroit.

Exactly. Keeping Ohio dollars in Ohio is the main factor, also, people won't have to drive as far to gamble if they choose.

    yes, and the exchange rate.
One thing nice about Windsor is if you hit it big on a slot or something, you don't have to fill out any tax forms like you do in US casinos.

I think i saw the biggest decline in Windsor and the amount of people that went there when they went no smoking.

No smoking is one reason I like to go up there. Mountaineer sucks anymore. Can't go down there without coming home with lung cancer and your clothes and then your car smelling like a smokestack.

Personally I don't want to live by a casino. I like them far away and then if I want to go there I can.

There are a few reasons why this will be a very bad thing for the Hilltop in Columbus.

    1. Casinos attract people who come in from outside the area who come in for a day or a weekend. It will also draw locals, but the locals that casinos tend to draw on a regular basis tend to be the same kind of people who buy lotto tickets on a regular basis, and they tend to be lower income because they think they can make it rich. The Hilltop is a very low income area, so seeing people in the area who can't afford to gamble spending time at the casino isn't a good thing.

    2. Living very near a casino is actually a good thing. Usually the area immediately around a casino is very nice and safe. The casino has their own security and there is usually an increased police presence. However, that means that it drives crime away from the area immediate surrounding the casino and into the neighboring areas (like the Hilltop). Looking at the map the new casino either falls in 19 precinct or in 10 precinct. If it falls in 19 precinct (where I live) it is one of the highest crime areas and already has one of the slowest response times in the city because of all the calls they take during a normal shift. The casino will just slow this down. If it's in 10 precinct then that is one of the largest precincts in the city. Either way, it's not going to be good for the Hilltop.

I agree the casino would be better served in the Arena District, but there's simply not enough parking as it is...

The casino should be where that stupid fucking park is now

They would have added parking. There is plenty of land where they could have built garages.
