knee surgery

I just had arthroscopic(sp) knee surgery on my right leg. I'm 36 and the doc tells me I need a replacement. He said I was a little young but will need it done in the next few years. I guess the car wrecks and dirtbike crashes are catching up. This truly sucks. Has anyone had a replacement and if so how has it gone sp far

The youngest patient I have treated in therapy with a total knee replacement was in his late 20's. Due to his age he did really well with the rehab and I only saw him for a little over a month. He said that he could believe how much better it felt when he walked and most of his pain symptoms were from swelling post op. The good news is that the new prosthesis are lasting much longer than before and you should be able to get 20-30 years out of the knee before it would need replaced again. Best of luck when it goes down.

I know numerous people who have had one or both replaced.....they had significant enough pain prior to surgery that once they finished rehab they have been very pleased with the results and are thankful to walk with substantially less pain or even painfree. Biggest thing I heard from any of them was to rehab correctly to prevent any kind of issues with the knee locking up.
