It costs me $50 to change my oil with mobil1 synthetic. If I went to a lube stop and asked some monkey to use mobil1 fully synthetic and mobil1 filter, they charge $85. I'm not buying your numbers of being a dollar off. -
Belly35I do some of the general maintains/repairs (change oil, rotate tires, fix the hoses) but more and more I take it to a mechanic I trust and can depend on ….
I do have a restoration type projects that I’m working on and that working I’m doing -

Why are you using synthetic oil? I find that a synthetic blend is just as good and is cheaper. My car has 130k on it -

I've done a lot of work in our lube analysis lab at work and for the price and performance, nothing beats mobil1 fully synthetic. -
rydawg5"buying my numbers?" lol every stinkin car shop has signs or coupons for that amount (most include tire rotations).
as far as ur super cool synthetic, the toyota dealership near me chargers $48 for mobil 1 synthetic with genuine filter. thatswhat iused in my last car and theydcharge the proper amount..
however on my car now, use regular oil which is 18.99 almost always -

I've never seen a shop, let alone a dealership use mobil1 @ $48. I'd be all over it.rydawg5;823684 wrote:"buying my numbers?" lol every stinkin car shop has signs or coupons for that amount (most include tire rotations).

GoChiefsI do everything myself. Ok, well used to. No garage, no driveway, so my options are limited.
I used to change my own oil because I know its getting done right. Had a buddy that bought a car brand new...150 miles on it. Took it to one of those oil change places every 3,000 miles. At about 30,000, he decided to change it on his own. Pulled the filter off and it still had the original damn filter on it.
Then there was the time one of them forgot to tighten the drain plug on my oil pan. Blown motor at 65,000 miles. No thanks, I'll pass on having an oil change place change my oil. -
justincredibleRegular oil in our car is $50+ to have changed, regular in my truck is $60+. I have about $20 in supplies to have it changed and it gets done on trips up to visit my mom. Her boyfriend and I drink a few beers while he changes the oil for me. I'd do it myself but he takes care of it while we bullshit. He has a lift in his garage which is awesome.

daveUsed to change oil/filter and rotate tired on my own. These days it doesn't make financial sense to do it. I'd rather work an extra hour and pay someone to do it for the little money I'd save doing it myself.

SpeedofsandMy dad was a great mechanic. He was friends with Jeg Coughlin Sr., Art Arfons, Smokey Yunick, and many more. I had an 85 Tbird that we rebuilt the motor, it was a sweet ride. I change my oil, spark plugs, fluid, but not much else. I have a regular mechanic I trust in town, for the last 15 years. My Ranger has 140k miles and has never needed anything but routine maintenance.
-
Curly JI used to do all the work myself or with my buddies when I live out in the country. Now that I'm in a Condo they don't allow car repairs on the property. My Wrangler is a 2007 with less than 18,000 miles so luckily not much work is needed. I get free oil changes for life where I bought it so I let them do any work that is needed on it.

Pick6The only thing i have ever taken my car to the shop for is body repair from where some drunk hit me in Cleveland. I was/am lucky enough to have a grandfather who has been a mechanic his whole life and a father who knows his stuff pretty good as well (built his own street stock race car). So i have a pretty good understanding on how to fix a lot of the more common things and figuring out what is wrong if something isnt right. If its anything too complicated ill take it to my grandpa and fix it with him. I enjoy working on my car because i have pride in it i guess. Bought it straight cash and have done some work to make it look better. I drive Korean.
Zwick- my grandpa has also done a lot of study and breakdown of the different oils/oil filters. He claims the walmart brand, supertech, is just as good as any. He also says the fram oil filters are trash -
