Vacation wake up times?

  • thavoice
I have always been one to go to bed "late" (midnight or so) and wake up early (6am or earlier) on vacations.

Whether it to the lake for a week, or the Outer Banks, or whatever I have always gotten little sleep and it never bothered. me.

What say you...when you go on vacation do you:
    1. have about the same sleep pattern.
    2. sleep longer but stay up way later
    3. get up much earlier than normal?

Wife seems to have a problem with me wanting to get up earlier while on vacation. I like to go for a run, or just a walk, and enjoy the new scenery. It is my contention that you dont sleep on vacation. Sleeping is wasting time as sleep at home feels the same as sleep on vacation so why waste the precious hours?

I'll sleep in as long as the wife will let me. Once she starts bitching at me to get up, I get up.

get up at or by sunrise no matter where I am

Old people tend to do that, grandpa.

Remember at the Outer banks we would be on the beach by sunrise...which is alot earlier than here!

Whenever the hell I wake up.

I'll tell you next week, as I'll be in Canada.

My 1 year old and my wife pretty much dictate when I wake up. We usually try to sleep in a little longer on vacations but it's all up to the munchkin.

Stay up late and sleep in a to a point. Why go on vacation to wake up early everyday like at home, especially if you are staying up later?
  • GoChiefs
I always stay up late, but when I wake up always depends on what is on the agenda for the day.

On vacation I stay up late and wake up at the same time as normal 3:00 piss and 5:00 coffee time...
I love my morning out on the deck in the summer... ...

If I am truly on vacation, like at the beach or somewhere other than home, I will sleep until I get out of bed. No set time, no alarm clock(unless something is planned).

Pretty much what GoChiefs said. I am always up til 1-2 AM anyway, so staying up late on vacation is nothing new for me.

I'm usually up by 7:30 regardless of where I am

I'm usually up earlier on Vacations as that's the shift that everyone else is on. I work until midnight, so I usually get up between 10am and 2pm.

Pretty much the same pattern for me, bed between 1a - 2a usually, get up at 9am ish

Same, actually. Family rented a house in Ontario starting the 16th for about a week.

Get up about 8 which is normal time and go to bed between 1-2am. Sometimes I like to get up earlier depending on the attractions for the day etc...

Usually bed by 2 or 3, and get up whenever housekeeping wakes me up at the door (recent vacation = 9:30-10:30 every morning).

Same here. 2am or so going to sleep, wake up when I wake up. Usually 9-11am. Unless something is planned early.

You sleep til noon or one on a regular basis. I sure hope you don't sleep that late when we go on vacation.

I usually stay up a little later than normal (I go to bed around 11-11:30 each night) and will get up around 9 or 10 at the latest. I love my sleep but I also want to enjoy where we're at.

My thoughts exactly. I was up every morning before 7am when we went on vacation. I would take my nieces out to walk on the beach while everyone else slept in. I want vacation to last as long as possible, and sleep only seems to shorten it. As long as I get 6 or so hours in, i'm good to go.

Get out of bed about the same time as normal (7:--ish), maybe a little earlier (6:00)......the thing is, I don't mind getting out of bed on vacation and I feel much more energized to start the day whether we have plans or not as opposed to dragging myself out of bed when I am at home! As for going to bed at night.....normally much later than I would at home. I am also of the thought that vacation time is better spent awake than sleeping....if I get a little tired midway through vacation during the day, a little afternoon nap for about a half hour does the trick.

Yea, so much easier to get out of bed when you know you don't have to go to work.

Honestly depends on where I am.

Carribean- I am in no rush to get up. As soon as I get up I go to the pool/beach and start drinking, so I'm in no hurry to wake up. Plus, I am usually up late.
Golf Vacation- Wake up depends on tee time. Bedtime is late no matter what.
Vegas- Goal is to be in poker room by 1 PM. Play until dinner. Eat dinner/watch a show if we are going to one. Back to casino for drinking and craps or blackjack unti whenever. Only changes to this agenda are if it is a football weekend. In that case, have to be to the sportsbook bar by 8:30 to claim my seat for the day.

j_baby is a human alarm clock. Even if I try sleeping in, she's up by 7:00 am. It's not a big deal to me as I'm a weirdly light sleeper and the second any light hits my face, I'm up for the day (assuming no alcohol consumption, that has been known to make me comatose at all hours of the day).
