There is no way my mom would have been able to spank me when I was in high school. Of course, I only got physically disciplined for talking back at that point and the smack to the mouth was much effective anyway. -

Youre right, I meant fruity pebbles!!! -
ZoltanI don’t have kids but every situation is different. I grew up in a family as one of four boys. It was already controlled chaos, and without the fear of “the board” would have been much worse. I see no way my parents could have made it without spanking.
Heck, our first babysitter would offer us the option when we got in trouble of 30 minutes in a chair or a few whacks with a paddle. -
Cat Food Flambe'There is no way we ever would have left our kids with my crazy in-laws. My father-in-law put his kids in hospital on three separate occasions from beatings, a brother-in-law was a convicted child molester, and two more of her siblings died of drug overdoses or medical complications of drug use. Yet no one saw any problem leaving their kids with them. Remember - this is Kentucky, where they just don't remove kids from their parents unless they don't go to a Baptist church.
My kids did not spend so much as five minutes alone with ANY of my in-laws until they were out of high school, and we named a family friend from here in Ohio as guardians for the kids had anything happened to the two us. We were perceived as "uppity" as a result. :/ -
HeelzBoth kids are pretty well behaved but in the event of bad behavior my wife and I both spank and her parents watch the kids alot and they can and have spanked before but its very rare. My wife has 4 brothers and 3 of them have watched the kids before and spankings never happen although the spanking option is there but it better be a real good reason.

Winning quote so far!!!
I have never spanked my children and my parents very rarely spanked my brother or sister. However, the threat of it was there the entire time any kids lived in the house and none of us would have ever thought of challenging even my mother.....if you did, you could rest assured that Dad would find out! -
Devils AdvocateMy son suffered what I call a triple jeopardy. He was caught throwing rocks at cars at his Grandpa's house when he was 7 or 8.
Grandpa beat his ass with his hand.
When the wife picked him up and found out that Grandpa beat his ass, She beat his ass with Granpa's belt.
When I came home from work and found out Granpa beat his ass, I responded in Kind.
Sometimes it sucks to be a kid -
