Uh-oh, who gave that Marine a microphone...

    Let's go to the transcription:

Col. Tomko: I'll tell you what, with that M1A1 Abrams (tank) we got across the street, if Halladay keeps on pitching well, we can fix that with one round pretty quickly.

Cards broadcaster Dan McLaughlin: - awkward laugh - I'm sure you could. I don't know if we should say that, but you just did.
If it had only been this I would have laughed it off as and thought nothing of it, but he continues...
Col. Tomko: I can say whatever I want because I'm a war fighter, and this is the Cardinals Nation the last time I checked.
It's this kind of crap from ONE Marine(a Lt Col. no less) makes the entire military look bad and reinforces certain people's thought that the military thinks they are better than everyone.

Also I liked this comment at the end:
Somewhere, there are Marine public affairs officers banging their heads on a table, especially since a primary purpose of Marine Week is to reinforce the perception that the Corps is accessible and friendly. Call me crazy, but a battalion commander joking about being able to 'say whatever I want' probably isn't helping in that regard.

This guy only feeds into the stereotype that Marines are badasses, but that they also are all mentally handicapped.

Act like you fought to SERVE your country instead of holding your war days OVER your country.

I listened to it and didn't see what the big deal is. It was awkward, but he was clearly just trying to be funny. Like most special guests that get added to the game broadcasts, they are either really boring or are only interesting because of something odd that they say.

There is no big deal, if this is considered inappropriate we've lost our minds. It wasn't that funny, but on the other hand it wasn't offensive, unless someone is looking to being offended.

Oh, it certainly wasn't offensive. It made him look unintelligent, but it was not remotely offensive.

Marines have the lowest standards for accepting recruits. You have to take an aptitude test on Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension and Mathematics Knowledge and that score determines whether you're qualified to enlist in the U.S. military. Well the Marines have the lowest passing score requirements for any branch, so it's not surprising there are dumb marines out there, even if they are a Lt. Colonel
