Is it a sin to say MoFo or any other curse words?

  I would rather not use any language that is considered "inappropriate" to use around any ages. I am often around all ages of people, as well as genders. So I would rather not get into the habit of using any language that may be considered "inappropriate" because I'd rather not treat anyone with disrespect.
  
  I feel it's pretty easy to communicate to everyone that I communicate with...without using any of the words that may be deemed "inappropriate." I just do not see the benefit in using a lot of the terms either.
  
  They may be just words, as someone has mentioned. But words do carry a lot of meaning to many people, genders, cultures, etc. The whole sin argument...it's a lot easier just not to use them so you don't have to worry about "is it a sin or not?" . But really, if we have to question things like this, is it something that we really should get wrapped up into? If it's that big of a problem, either don't do it (swear/cuss/whatever else you want to call it) and then you don't have to worry about the "sin" part of it OR do it (swear/cuss/whatever else you want to call it) and then you will continue to question the whole legitimacy of it being a "sin" or "not being a sin."
  
  I have gone 8+ years without saying a "curse word." I don't think it's that hard. I've been able to clearly communicate with whoever I need to...no need to pick up another habit -- especially one that has little to no benefits.

  I'm in my church's basement after Mass and I was talking to our priest while having some coffee and donuts. He gets up to get some more coffee and a lady sends over her child to talk to him. You can tell the kid was uncomfortable and he says something along the lines of "mom told me to confess/tell you that I said 'shit' " . To which Father replied "well saying "shit" isn't a sin, you shouldn't say it but it isn't a sin", the mom looked kind of disappointed and I lol'd.

  Yeah, to be honest if God cares so much about what I say and do he should have, at my birth, been like "okay, here are the rules". And no, a book thousands of years old that's been written and rewritten a ton by men does not count.

  I would be concerned if you weren't having a hard time understanding why people subscribe. It's not something that should simply be flippantly accepted.
