After wifey recovers from her surgery, we have an opportunity to head there for vaca. What are the reports? Places to go, good dining spots?

I just got back from there. I loved it. But it depends on what you like to do. If you like walking to a strip of stores and seeing shops, this isn't really the place (Although they do have 1 small strip).

The beaches are unreal, the water is crystal clear. The place we stayed at "The Windsong" has a 1 bedroom suite that is about 1600 square foot with every appliance you can think of and a huge balcony overlooking the ocean.

They have great snorkeling, scuba diving, snuba, etc

If you want an "all-inclusive", theres a beaches, but when we walked passed it, it was the ONLY place that was extremely crowded. The place we stayed normally had 15 people on the beach at a time.. if you'd walk down further you could lay on the beach without anyone in sight in most cases.

The flight down and back was $700 and the room for 5 nights was $1600 (which was a great deal for this room we got) The Windsong has a night club/bar called the havana club and have good live music, there also located near a beach bar called "somewhere else" which is really cool and has food/drink. If you walk down the beach, many of the hotels have their own resturaunts and you can just stroll in to eat.

They drive on the left side of the road, but speak better English than people in Miami do.

I'll try to find some pictures ...

I've never been, but I know several people who have, including a guy who lived there for three years.
