Dish Network or Direct TV?

  • Tiger2003
Which is better? Always have had cable but we are building in the country and I was wondering what people prefer. What is the difference between the two? Yah I know one is called Direct TV and one is call Dish Network.

    Thanks for the help.

have had both. really dont think there is much, if any of a difference IMO. I would just go with the one who has the better deal going on at the time.

Direct TV has the NFL Ticket, enough reason for me.

DISH has a better DVR but the regular equipment sucks. If you want 4 TVs hooked up, they only give you 2 boxes. The other two TVs are "satellite" tvs. So the remote sends a signal to the base TV. Problem with that is most times we have to wave our arms all over our room to find a spot that will change the channel. IT IS SO INFURIATING. That alone is why I want to switch back to DirecTV and we just got an offer from them saying they will pay the early termination fee up to 200 bucks. Sounds like a deal to me.

this. I have no idea about how the sports packages compare because I've never looked into them.

I pay about $145/month with taxes and 3 receivers. I have HBO, Starz, Encore, Showtime, the Sports Package (all of the Regional Sports stations), BabyFirstTV (it costs an extra $5/month but I have a 1-year old who loves it), the $5.99/month protection plan which covers pretty much everything you can think of and it has definitely paid for it self a few times over for me). HD and DVR service as well. That includes a couple monthly credits as well since I called to cancel Showtime and Starz they gave them to me for free for 6 months.

Mainly the reasons everyone else has mentioned.

My parents have dish and if it wasn't such a hassle to switch they would. They had an absolutely horrible experience with dish's customer service and technician. The tech guy actually cut and used my dads antenna wire to install his HD. We didn't realize til after the fact when no local channels would come in.

If you aren't getting Sunday Ticket, it's really a wash.

I might be reading it wrong but they got some deal where you get Sunday Ticket.

You can't get Sunday Ticket from Dish. I have been Dish owner for 2 years and they offer the Red Zone Channel only & and you get regional sports channels with it for $5 a month. Red Zone is where the switched to every game when in the Red Zone and you see every TD from every game. It is great for a person like me that is in 3 fantasy leagues and is kind of addicting. From what I heard from Direct TV owners they are about a wash except the NFL ticket - same amount of HD channels and usually same prices. I went with Dish at the time becasue it was cheaper - Was $50 for 2 years and now that just expired and paying $75 for 150 channels, Red Zone/Regional sports, and 2 HD receivers that have 2 TVs connected to both. Works for us - wife and kids DVR their shows in living room and our bedroom, and I dvr my stuff in basement(man cave) and office.

If you're adding or subtracting channels its automated or you can do it online. They will get you a tech in 24 hours. I had Sunday ticket and all I did was watch red zone channel. Unlike directv. Dish allows you to only purchase red zone. And its $30 cheaper

They've done an outstanding job every time I've called them.

Have had Directv for over ten years and have never considered changing. I don't order the NFL package but the MLB package is awesome and the customer service is top notch.
