Heading over in August for vacation, just wondering if anyone has any tips on tapas joints, hotels, areas of town that are must see, etc.

I spent a few days there while on spring break in '07. Unfortunately it rained most of the time, but it was still a blast.

I recommend La Rambla, obviously. Also take a tour of Nou Camp if you can.....amazing stadium!

Must take the tour of Nou Camp. Biggest stadium in Europe. They take you onto the pitch, the locker rooms, the offices, etc. Amazing experience, form what I have heard.

I'll be there in September, so can't help you out....post how it is after you get back.

Definitely, but you better know Spanish...or at least some.

Going with friends to be a party will be a blast. The clubs are wild, going til about 8am. I suggest going out LATE.

Wait, That is Mexico that has the bad water, you should be ok when drinking the water over there. Just don't masturbate in public over there, they are not as understanding as the United States.

are you staying at hotel? if it's group of 20 somethings, i would recommend staying at Barcelona urbany youth hostel, its near a train station that goes the airport. they also arrange for trips to the club at night. i enjoyed the gothic quarter (decent shopping) and some good pubs.

No hostels. I wisely signed up to become a member of the NH world chain on my last visit to Europe, so this go round I am staying in a joint in Barri Gotic for the first night. However, if the locale isn't best I would love to hear of another place to stay. Barri Gotic should be a good starting point for the bar crawls that will ensue, but in case it isn't if you all know of a better place I am all ears.

Three days in Madrid then three in Barcelona.

As for Speaking spanish, my Castilian is good but Catalan...that's a whole different can of worms. Friends who lived in Barca tell me it is more English friendly than Mardrid and Seville, and I had no issues navigating those cities.

but I only needed to know two words Cerveza and Cuenta
