Wizard of Oz Prequel. Would you watch?

  • thavoice
JD from scrubs will be this movie. It is about the character who ends up being the Wizard of Oz

Couple of years ago I heard of two new Wizard of Oz movies coming out. One was a prequel and the other was to be made by the guy who always has jonny depp in movies and in that one Dorothy's daughter coming back to Oz and running amok.

Is the plot going to be similar to Wicked or are they going in a different direction with the story?

This was going to be my exact question. I enjoyed both the book & the Play and I'm not sure how one can top those two, but I'd be willing to check it out.

If it's like Wicked then I'm in.

Speaking of Wicked, it's coming to Pittsburgh in September and tickets are on sale now.

Didnt the person who wrote Wicked also write some other OZ spinoffs like Son of Oz? Maybe they are going to adapt one of those.

No. The Wizard of Oz was one of the worst movies ever created. Up there with Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Sounds like somebody had a terrible childhood...

Willy Wonka was awesome! I willnot watch that newer version of it.

As for will it be like wicked?

I have no idea...and I am ashamed to say I have NO IDEA what Wicked is.

All I know it is about the character who became Oz and how he came to be. JD is supposed to be a servant of the future oz.

Gregory Maguire wrote 3 books in his Oz series. He's writing a 4th now which is supposed to be the last one. If you've seen the play but not read the books--they're much dirtier.

My Aunt had my 12 year old cousin read Wicked because they are going to see the play in New York next week. The 12 year old told her Aunt that the book was talking about the witch having purple hair and not the hair on your head...

The Wizard of Oz is my favorite movie of all time so I would watch a new one.

Wicked is a broadway production of the 'back story' of the movie Wizard of Oz. Namely, how Glenda and Elphaba became good and bad, etc. It's a great play. I would love that to be adapted into a movie.

And yeah, I'm hoping to go in September to see it again at the Benedum Center.

Indeed. Or a robot. Robots probably wouldn't enjoy iconic movies. Because they have no souls. Much like gingers. Maybe he's a soulless ginger. Many possibilities here.

    A ginger robot....sounds about right I bet!

It will be interesting to see this movie. I dont know if the other one is actually going to be made with Dorothy kid coming back to oz and wreaking havoc.

This prequel sounds OK I imagine

Think I remember Wicked coming to dayton...guess I shoulda checked it out

I was supposed to read Wicked in 10th grade. I didn't, but got the gist of it in English class discussion etc. The play, however, was AWESOME!
