Bullying in school

  • bigdaddy2003
Is anyone else getting tired of hearing about bullying in school? Lately it seems like all you hear is about how a kid killed himself because of getting made fun of in school. I'm not saying it's not sad for the families and what not but come on. Are we becoming mentally weaker or what?

Yes people are more weak and soft than used to be. Kids playing on computers and game consoles instead of playing sports and out riding their bikes, etc...have wussified this nation. Kids and most grown ups have no clue how to stand and stick up for themselves!!

I was bullied in school. That's why I started this site. So I can push people around.

I got picked on all the time in school. And when I talk to people I went to school with they remember me picking on them. I'm not sure there is a way to stop it. Kids just have to learn how to stand up for themselves.

That's the problem. If a kid decides to stand up for himself he will be facing a long suspension or even expulsion.

Bring the paddle back, and let kids be kids.

Thread fail. The current technology has made bullying a much more serious problem than ever before and it will only get worse.

I do agree that the current technology is making this worse. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make it better?

Some if it rests with the parents. I caught two of my kids writing negative things about someone else on FB. I put a stop to it as soon as I heard and both know that if I ever catch them doing it again or bullying at school they will have to deal with me. They also know that if they are ever bullied, see a friend of theirs being bullied, or one of their brothers and don't do anything they will be in deep shit when I find out.

I got a call from the school principal when my one son was in 2nd grade and she told me how proud she was of him because a kid that was much smaller than him got mad and punched him 5 times in the face and he didn't do anything. He said he was afraid to retaliate because he would get in trouble and get suspended. I let the principal know that I was not OK with it and guaranteed her if it ever happened again my son would be kicking the other kids ass.

Nah, in no way, shape, or form is it a failed thread. Sorry but getting mean texts or being bullied over Facebook isn't a reason for suicide.

you forgot the favorite phrase of the media that blows this shit out of proportion. "Bullycide"

Most of it should rest with the parents.

Good for you and your child.

My guess is you have no kids in school, or kids period, nor a grasp of what's going on in schools today other than a random headline you may have glanced at.

Rather, you're one of those "when i was a kid...blah blah blah guys". Yes, thread fail.

Parents also need to let their kids learn how to stick up for themselves, rather than jumping two feet into every fight/misunderstanding/confrontation their kids have.

On some things, it's important for parents to let their kids sort out their issues. But there are also other issues where parents need to be involved. It's a fine (and unclear) line, but I agree with SVF that the rise of technology has made bullying an even bigger issue for kids than it used to be.

I don't need kids to know that there isn't anything going on with school kids these days to justify suicide. I have nieces and cousins who are in school. So not a thread fail. You can disagree all you want. It's my opinion. It's not just a random headline I have read. I have heard it multiple times on various news shows.

So since you apparently have children in school explain to me what is going on these days that is so bad?

I blame soccer moms who want the best for their kids and will stop at nothing until they get it.

If being suspended or explulsion is what is holding some back from standing up for themself then they should be picked on.
Being suspended or expelled a few day fom school was right of passage ............ in my time.

Bullying can go a different path: You can be a bully and defend the under dog cool kid in school so he or she will not be picked on ( done that) is that wrong?

Its just more pussification of America. Everything is geared toward as non violent as possible, Taking away dodgeball not allowing you to make cuts in sports so you dont get your feelings hurt. and making the kickballs out of foam now hell taking gym out of some schools and replacing it with Wii Fit. WTF? They are even taking pinata's and making so you dont hit it anymore you pull the strings on the a little door and the candy falls out. We are becoming a nation of fat, lazy pussy's who for the most part dont have any control over kids. If I hear a mom count to 3 ten times in WalMart to a screaming kid im gonna lose it.

I dont see a thread fail, I see a thread that obviously some people have opinions on and would like to discuss it.
