You have one beer to drink for the rest of your life...

No, just calling you out for being a big enough douche bag to slam on someone else's pick.

Yeah, my brother is a beer snob. There are 3 drunks that come to my parent's house on a daily basis and my brother had the balls to tell them they needed to drink something good if they were going to be alcoholics. They drink PBR and it is one of my favorite beers but he doesn't like it therefore it automatically falls into the nasty beer category.

I suppose I'd be a 6 pack a night beer snob too if I could only handle 3 or 4.

What's wrong with voicing a disagreement?

First, I don't get the whole "beer snob" thing. Is someone who drives a high quality vehicle a car snob? Someone who eats well-made cuisine a food snob? Or is there another element to it?

As for this discussion, when I am offered a Bud Light or something else like it, I don't turn my nose up at it. Would I buy it? No, because I like other things so much more, but that doesn't mean I turn my nose up at it if offered.

Am I still a beer snob just because I think something someone else mentioned tastes nasty or is of low quality? Do I have to sacrifice quality in order to not be belittled and called a "snob?"

I didn't get your second sentence, by the way. Typically, the microbrews being mentioned have a much higher gravity (11% alc./vol. or more in many cases), so "being able to handle" 3 or 4 of one beer won't translate to another, necessarily, but I digress, I might have just not understood what you meant.

As for me, I can handle two bombers of something like Weyerbacher Tiny in an evening (about four normal beer bottles worth of beer), but two bombers of Tiny has about the same amount of alcohol as twelve Bud Lights. For other microbrews, it's different though.

But trying to compare them on the amount of liquid or number of bottles alone is an apples-to-oranges comparison.

Okay, I can see the "shoot them" comment being a little extreme, but I'd be willing to guess it was as much to get your goat as anything (mission accomplished). Still, there have been more people on this topic ripping on "beer snobs" than you.

First, your brother is a boob for saying that. Once you start getting inebriated, your taste is dulled anyway, unless he was talking about the alc./vol. of it.

Second, there's a difference between beer that someone doesn't like and beer they thing tastes like piss. I'm not a fan of Bud Light, but like I said, I'll drink it if it's offered to me.

Natty Light or Coors, on the other hand, will just mean I'm not having beer that night. I felt that way back before I'd ever had anything fancier than New Castle, though.

you can have a good beer and not be a beer snob, its when you act like a douche about drinking a better beer that makes you a snob

Even if you like cheap beer, Coors has to way down on the list of major cheap pilsner/American light lagers:

    Yuengling Light*
    Michelob Ultra
    Miller Light
    Bud Light
    Natural Light
    Schaefer Light*
    Michelob Light
    Coors Light
    Keystone Light
    Busch Light

That would be me that mentioned Chocolate Stout. I also mentioned IPA, Imperial IPA, and Belgium Ale. (i'm not into the Lager style). I would and have drank Stouts in the Summer, as it is my favorite style of beer. Pounding them ??? No...Not a 10%-12% ABV beer. Plus, I'm not into pounding beer, but instead relaxing and enjoying the flavor. I'm too old to play the pounding beers games as I got all of that out of my system years ago. I was a big Coors Light drinker back in my Military days. Back then it was all about quantity, not quality. The old bragging rights on how many beers you drank last night meant you were more of a man or had a bigger penis, or whatever. (kinda like post counts on a BB) Actually the ones I used to pound back then was Old Milwaukee Light as it was cheap, tasted about the same, and I could put away damn near a case of it. (yea I was a real man back then...lol)

Yea I might be a beer snob, but I encourage others to drink that Fizzy Yellow stuff. Mainly because that leaves some of the better beers for others who will actually enjoy them. I mean the place where I buy my beer can't even keep the DFH 60 and 90 on the shelves for more than 24 hours, since more people have discovered and want DFH. Only handle 3 or 4 a night ??? Well when one of the higher ABV beers equals 2 or 3 of the lower ABV beers, yea the 4.2 ABV content of Bud Light and Coors Light, you don't need to or want to drink as many. I for one don't like pounding down cheap beer and pissing like a race horse the rest of the night. :)

This. Not everyone drinks beer in an effort to get hammered. I never do.

I've certainly had stouts in hot summer weather. They can be quite good, but they certainly wouldn't be a good "pounding" beer, so if that's the way you drink beer, I guess it wouldn't make sense.

    This. All of it.

I try not to be a snob and personally think people should drink whatever they want to, but don't understand why people would want to drink something that tastes bad. I doubt most feel the same way about food, so why wouldn't they want a beer that smells and tastes good. I don't have one favorite beer, rather great beers I love from different styles like Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout, Trappist Rochefort 10, Southern Tier Pumking, Cantillon Iris, Troegs Nugget Nectar.......

If I could only drink one beer though, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is a safe choice. Its nearly flawless, and is my go to beer.

I'd have the same opinion if there was a "if you can only eat one burger for the rest of your life" thread and people said Mcdonalds. It's just a bad choice.

As far as my beer. It's going to be an IPA because it's got enough flavor going on for me not to get bored, is drinkable enough to golf with, and I like drinking them in the summer as well as winter.

    Link?

Beer snobs are when people bash your beer choice(read: your opinion) and point out some beer that no one has heard of that's so much better. It's the same with music. If someone likes hill billy country, and you come in and say "Wow, let me show real music like Zac Kain's band from the 1880's', you wouldn't call them a snob?

Clearly, if Coors light is so bad, then why do so many drink it? If you're random beer that you'll bring up that's better, why don't they sell more of it?

So you do think Mcdonalds makes the best burgers then.

Your premise is that popularity denotes quality.

I'd say popularity denotes cost more than anything. Porsche, Ferrari, Aston Martin, etc are all pretty uncommon cars. Does that mean they are worse than a Chevy Cobalt?

Something being popular does not mean it's good but it also doesn't mean it's bad. It probably just means it's inexpensive.

You asked for a link. I provided that. In Coors Light defense it is Number 4 in sales. (USA)

Not really. I'd actually give their suggestion an honest shake. Maybe I might like it. Maybe I won't. Can't know until I try it out, though.
sleeper;776604 wrote:Clearly, if Coors light is so bad, then why do so many drink it?
    Because it's a cheap drunk.

A couple reasons. It's not as cheap. It's not widely advertised. It's not nearly as easy to mass produce.

How are they snobs? They aren't ripping anyone's opinion. They're giving an honest gauge on a beer, like they do with every other beer.

    Decent analogy.

    It's made with shitty ingredients.

However, like I said, if you are looking for a cheap drunk or something you can feel comfortable "pounding," it would rank pretty highly. With this topic, it's all in what qualities you want.

Clearly, McDonalds is given the general public what it likes. How do you prove one thing is better than another, especially when it comes to food? We all have different tastes.

Cars are different. They don't have anything to do with an opinion, at least not a consensus. Beer snobs pretend their lame microbrew is the best, but there's really no way to empirically prove that. I don't have a problem with someone liking a different beer, I think its hilarious when someone mentions random beer that no ones ever heard of and just naturally assumes its a better beer because it tastes better to them.

So because some people don't like the taste of PBR that automatically makes it a bad beer? I see where saying you don't care for a beer is fine but it's when you tell people that they are dumb for drinking it that it goes to snobbery.

O-Trap, I fully admit my brother is a jackass. lol
