Fight Training
-
QuintI recently incorporated heavy bag work into my workout routine, and I love it. Does anyone have any tips, suggestions, or even additional workouts along the line of fight training? I've googled some stuff, but I figured the OC would provide some good insight. Thanks!

What type of "fight training" are you talkin'?
I boxed for 10 years....are you talking MMA type of training or boxing? -

Bas' workout is incredible. Can't say enough good things about it. Best one I've found. You can also find it for free on the internet if your conscience can live with that. -
I Am AhabIve got a few different apps for me iPhone, My Boxing Trainer and My MMA Trainer. Both have some good training vids and boxing trainer has a timer for rounds where some dudes voice calls out punches. Good for working the bag.

I Wear PantsIs the voice Dutch sounding? Because if it is it's Bas Rutten.

I Am AhabNah. Only the boxing trainer app calls out combos during rounds. mmA trainer doesn't have that feature. Sounds like some old school boxing trainer. Reminds me of Teddy Atlas. The training vids are just some random vids off YouTube. Two good apps tho for the money.

Either. Right now I'm just working out on my own trying to repair my body from 3 years of wasting away in law school, so I'm just looking for workouts. I would like to eventually find a gym where I can get some professional instruction, but I haven't decided if I want to do boxing or mma. So if anybody has first hand knowledge on good gyms in the Columbus/Chillicothe area, I'd really appreciate the input. -
I Wear PantsHonestly sounds like Bas' workout would be quite good for you then. It is audio cds that have Bas calling out combinations for you to do, you can do this workout with a heavy bag, shadow boxing without a bag, or with a partner and focus mitts. There are 4 types of workouts included in it with two versions of each workout (usually one with 2 minute rounds and one with 3 minute rounds). There's a boxing tape, thai boxing tape, all around fighting tape, and all around workout tape.
The fighting and workout tapes include things like pushups, sprawls, and jumping squats and will definitely kick your ass. What's awesome is that with the video that comes with it to show you how to use the workout Bas actually shows very well how to correctly throw the punches and combinations and you notice yourself getting much better at that very quickly. Even if you don't go on to do boxing or mma classes or training it's still an excellent workout regimine.
