I'm not disageeing, however, the comps/benefits of a CEO (which is what I compared a police chief with) are much MUCH more lucrative. Yes, there is risk involved in being a CEO of a private company, but the pay is much better too. Ask Alan Mulally of Ford. His one year pay was more than a lifetime for a police or fire chief.Manhattan Buckeye;776068 wrote: "They are no different than CEO's. "
But there is a big difference in the way they are comped. Public "servants" get paid currently in 100% cash and a defined pension backed by the PBGC, and they have the most guaranteed funding of any employer since the underlying government entity can always tax more. Executives of private businesses, particularly public companies, typically take most of their comp in options/restricted stock and there is an element of risk to the comp - along with the risk that the business will continue to survive, unless of course it is GM or other company deemed too big to fail.
The comp/benefits of some of these people are downright insane, particular the pensions that kick in after just 30 years. That makes no economic sense at all in the 21st century. -

There is a little more that goes into water rescue than just pulling some idiot out of the water. For some of you, the lack of your ability to comprehend this is unbelievable to me. These aren't life guards sitting pool side at the local pool. Last year there nearly 2200 water rescues and over 5000 medical emergencies attended to by Newport beach Life Guards. What price would you be willing to pay if you or a family member were one of them? Personally, if I were at the beach I would prefer to be rendered aid by a well trained professional versus some high school kid making minimum wage. -
The BossYeah! Fuck the economy, fuck my tax dollars, who cares if my state is in a fiscal crisis! I need saved at the beach!

And why don't you post the whole story too, dumbass. I just looked this dude up and like the examples I used in my other post, something else caused him to drown. Other swimmers in the race were treated for heat-related symptoms. No shit he knew how to swim. And guess what, I bet they had some great lifeguards watching Olympic level swimmers and none of them saved him. In fact, other Olympic quality swimmers took 90 minutes to find him. They sure did a swell job of saving him, hope they're making 100k+/year. -
saltoI can't quite figure something out....you're either 14 years old or dumb as fuck....I'll let you choose.
