Is it time to get a new router?
-
j_crazyMy current wireless router is a wrt54g its like 8 yrs old. It keeps needing reset like everyday otherwise its not putting out a good WiFi signal (like its saying good connection on my devices but not allowing me to see the internet). Is this a sign that need to upgrade or is it something I can fix somehow. If I need a new router what are your picks.

karen lotzYou should be able to download a new firmware for it. When was the last time you did?

JawbreakerWhat version is the router?

I actually just popped on one of these this morning.
I also have a WRTG54 G2, and it has been decent, but has always had problems with needed to be unplugged/reset almost once a day. From what I understand there were some issues and no fix has ever been released.
I had like $100 in amazon gift cards and was thinking of things around the house that piss me off, and the router came to mind.
I also was not pleased with the range of the old router....Sure, it is in my basement, but I think the room directly above the router should be getting a pretty solid signal to my Roku, yet it was always "fair". We'll see if this helps, it was time for an upgrade anyways.. -

Kinda sounds like your settings aren't right on it as your devices aren't lying to you about the signal.j_crazy;767593 wrote:My current wireless router is a wrt54g its like 8 yrs old. j_crazyi just updated the firmware, mine was grossly out of date.
we'll see how it goes. i'll give it a week. -
gut8 years old, not a bad idea to upgrade. What's a new router cost, like $40? Better security and much faster than what you had, more than likely.

I Wear PantsProbably not better security. I mean, it could be but only if you use it. Most people tend to use WEP still which is dump if you're trying to actually secure a network.
I live in the boonies so I don't even put security on mine since no one is within range of the signal (come steal my internetz).
