Leaving Thursday for the Big Easy

puffyisbackWhere are the hot spots? We're bout 4 blocks from Bourbon Street.....Going with 6 other guys as a bachelor party for a buddy
-
Midstate01When you are looking down bourbon from the main road. Absolutely do not go left of there. A few streets down will get you killed. If you go right of bourbon, you are fine till the Mississippi river, where tons of aggressive homeless hang out.
Bourbon is awesome, have some "huge ass beers". 3 for the price of one... But like $9. Lots of cool bars and strip clubs. One of the ladies at the piano bar is from Ohio and loves playing buckeye tunes. If you wanna get out of downtown for some food. Metarie is just west of downtown off I-10 and has some good places to eat. Also if you wanna see a bridge that is nearly 6 miles long and is pretty cool, go east of downtown on I-10 for about 15 miles and you'll cross it. And just after that bridge is where almost all of the show swamp people is filmed.
Youll love NOLA!! When we were stationed in Biloxi, MS, we spent a good bit of time there. Something different happens every day.
Oh and you smell puke everywhere... So prepare yourself. -
september63You will arrive in NOLA just in time for the next flood. Certainly not as bad as the last one though.

timing is everything -
Fred FlintstoneMake sure to check out Pat O'Brien's for a Hurricane or three. Beware of the Hand Grenades, wow those are strong. 3-for-1 Happy Hour are all over. You can always hit the free balcony at Cat's Meow (kareoke bar). If you are looking for fine dining hit one of Emeril's places, Cochon, Broussards, or there are a few others I can list if you are interested. Depending on your tastes you might want to take the street car up St. Charles to the Uptown area and check it out. There is a cool bar on St. Charles called Igor's that I always hit. St. Louis Cemetery #1 is pretty cool and a short walk from the Quarter. NOLA is a great city with tons of things you'll only see in New Orleans just be very aware of your surroundings.

september63Sidenote: I wouldnt carry a wallet with me, and if I did it would be in my front pocket. Take only the cards and cash you need and keep them in your front pocket.
This might only apply during Mardi Gras crowds, but it was a good idea then. -
Manhattan BuckeyeTropical Isle/Razoo's were our haunts back in the day. Not sure about the strength of hand grenades these days, back then they weren't that strong at TI - but they were loaded with sugar.
-
BigdoggSeek out the Alibi. The girls from Rick's hang out there after their shift is over. Great beer selection.
-
thePITmanPrepare yourself for the stench as you near Bourbon Street!
-
hoops23NO smells like piss. Have fun.

He's right. Keep it in your front pocket!! Pat o'briens is also where the piano bar is. -
bigkahunaIs New Orleans really THAT dangerous? I figured it was probably a little rough because of the drunk festival that's associated with it and that it's a big city, but I didn't think it'd be that bad. I've always wanted to go, but I'd now be hesitant to do so.

If you stay in the busy areas you're fine. But there are very bad areas of Nola yes. And not far from bourbon. -
Fred FlintstoneThe Iberville Housing Projects are just outside the French Quarter. Probably don't want to go wandering through there. Word from the wise - Don't cross Basin Street. If you get lost head towards the River not away from it.

Steel Valley FootballI was in POB's drinking a hand grenade around 10am with my father in law. Only ones in there. Melissa Joan Hart walks in with her brand new baby in a stroller. She was shocked at how fast the BT told her gtfo of here with that baby. He didn't know who she was but also didn't give a fuck when I told him who he just yelled at. We also the saw midget family on that reality tv show with their camera crew. All in all, not a fan of nola but it was nice to finally visit there and sightsee.

I didnt really associate it with dangerous. There were alot of people claiming to have been pick pocketed though. -
