Streaming Media...anyone do it?

  • birddog23
Thinking about getting a Netgear Push2TV, Western Digital Live TV, Boxee Box, or Sony has their own thing. Anyway I was just wondering if any of you guys use them and if so do you like them? I'm a little confused on what you can and cant watch. Such as will I be able to pick up sporting events and things like that or is just mainly movies?

Just interested in hearing your opinion on them...

    I love my roku

If you're getting a retail thing I'd say go with Roku or Boxee. But I'd really suggest just building/buying an HTPC to run XBMC.

What kinda stuff do you watch on it?

    Oh wow, gee thanks...

Well I mean, that's what you watch on them. Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon's Instant store. Crackle has some decent offerings and they're free.

What about live sports? Can you watch them?

I use it for Hulu, Amazon, and Crackle and had Netflix on it too(since cancelled though). For the price($59 for an HD) it can't be beat.

I'd really like to go this route when my DirecTV contract is up. But I have to have access to my college and NFL football. What do you guys do for that?

I just went from DirecTV to Dish...why? Because for the first year I get the same channels I got on DirecTV(so all my sporting events) for almost $40 a month cheaper...and next year the price will go up $20 but Ill still be $20 a month cheaper...and in two years Ill switch again.

This is basically what I want to know as well. Or what would be the best route to go for live sports.

Are you looking at this as a way to "cut the cord" and go without a TV service?

I have a WDTV Live Plus and love it. Stream netflix, I rip my DVD's from them, store them on a hard drive that plugs into the WDTV. I have built a nice library.

Yes that is my goal. Use Hulu plus and maybe Netflix. But I have to be able to watch live sports.

As far as live sports goes you should check the services available on the devices (some of them have things like MLB TV that you can get a subscription for and depending on your internet provider you can get ESPN on Xbox if you have one). Beyond that all you can really do is get an antenna to pick up the local channels and the sports that are played on them.

That's what I figured. I bet it won't be long before ESPN is offereing live streaming similar to a Hulu.

Actually, I guess you can do that with the Xbox. Hmmmm.........

I can't believe Time Warner is not on the ESPN provider list. Verizon is, but it isn't reliable enough to do this.
  • WebFire
Meh...only ESPN 3 is streamed live.
  • ernest_t_bass
    What exactly is this thing?

They are on the list they just haven't sorted it out yet. Like if you go to ESPN3/Networks/whatever.com with Time Warner you'll be able to stream it. It's just taking them for fucking ever to get it to work on the Xbox.
