Golf Thread

DeyDurkie5Let's get a golf thread for the summer going, I know we have some golfers on here...
Been getting back into the golf groove lately, and have been seeing some improvement in my game especially on the driving/putting side. This summer though, my iron game has been completely lost. I seem to have about 100-150 left for each hole and always hit a good shot, my accuracy is just way off. Anyone have any tips on iron accuracy? Are iron shots typically supposed to have the same swing as your driver? Why am I getting great contact and distance, just can't seem to put the ball on the green? If i could correct this problem, my golf game would be around par/bogey golf which I have no problems with. -
karen lotzWhere do you miss on your iron shots? Always right or always left? Might just be an alignment issue if you have the distance pretty close. The biggest difference in the swings is how you contact the ball. For driver its more of a sweeping motion where you shouldn't be hitting the ground. Contact with the irons need to be on a more steep angle so you are hitting down on the ball and let the club face do the work. You need to be sure to hit the back of the ball first and then the ground. When you hit irons, where does your divot start in relation to the ball?

SportsAndLadyu can't touch me in golf
I got B-Rich, Lutz, and cumbolarge to back me up on that -
darbypitcher22haven't picked up a club since hitting some balls inside since January... lookingto get out and hit a bucket or two sometime this week and then hopefully start working into a couple of rounds next week

They go left or right, but they aren't missing by a lot...They seem to hit everywhere around the green just not on the green(bunkers, rough, short). I would be more worried it was my swing if i was duffing or tanking my shots, but i have great contact like i said. I just can't seem to get the accuracy.karen lotz;763505 wrote:Where do you miss on your iron shots? Always right or always left? Could be the angle of your club head at impact. A little too open will push it right, a little too closed will pull it left.DeyDurkie5;763512 wrote:They go left or right, but they aren't missing by a lot...They seem to hit everywhere around the green just not on the green(bunkers, rough, short). I've completely changed my driver swing and my iron swing over the last couple weeks, so I'll have more feedback over the next couple months on my game. -
gerb131Been too crappy to play much golf or get into a rhythm. I cant wait til August when I get a 50 ft bounce and 87 yards of roll.

maybe a firmer grip will change that? -
justincredibleIf anyone near Cincinnati wants to golf let me know. Terry_Tate and I hit the links a few times last summer but he always kicked my ass.

I Wear PantsI need to get out on the course bad. Been itching to play. I hit a 5 iron up into our orchard today and it felt sweet. Just from hitting balls around the yard and swinging I can tell I'm going to play well like I did last year.

You want a looser grip, I do believe. If you have a firmer grip, your arms will be too tense to swing through contact freely. -

I use a firmer grip on my driver, so I just assumed you would use the same on the irons. I'll try that loose grip next time I go out. -

Another thing to try out is different grips, not just grip pressure. The position of your right hand (if your right handed) can affect how the club squares itself in the hitting zone too. -
gerb131Zwick musta got married....

SportsAndLadyu need new clubs durkie..my clubs are absolutely awful I assume u still have the same ones we got when we were younger?

Ironman92Chipping and putting....chipping and putting. Chipping and putting turns an "I can't hit the green in two" 90 into an unimpressive 82.
You want to improve medium distance iron shots.....plastic golf balls that are solid and hit at some targets...if you can control the plastic balls you will be set.....and you don't have to leave your yard. -

my chipping and putting is fine, I just can't hit my medium range irons and it kills my score. -

IMO, it's mostly about swing tempo. The key to a good golf swing is timing and balance. If your hands get behind your body, you'll push it, if your hands get out in front you will hook it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but this is my understanding. -

I agree, but for the most part my swing is in good tempo and I come through the ball with my body in good shape and my head down. I just always seem to push it a few feet right/left and it kills my rounds -
tuskytuffguyGet some damn Pings, and you won't go way left or right. Ping gives forgiveness.

I Wear PantsThe club is not the problem.

I was back home this weekend and wanted to play Longaberger since I grew up right down the road. Enjoy yourself! -
SpeedofsandI can't swing a club since my back was hurt 4 years ago. I hate it, don't think I'll ever play again. Doctor told me not to sell my clubs last year, so I still have them.
I was at Sawgrass the other day for Tebow's charity event. Had a blast, met some NFL players & other celebs. Got pics with a bunch of them, they were having fun too. The stadium course has 'The Players' this week. You'll never see so many pretty women at a golf tourney as Sawgrass.
