Practice Drills
-
se-alumI'm helping my brother coach my nieces 8U coach pitch softball team, and I need some ideas for fun drills to have them do. We've both coached before, but never at the level where the kids are completely new to the game. Just looking for something fun to keep them interested, as you can imagine, they have short attention spans.

THE4RINGZThrowing and catching are critical at that level. Have them pair off 10 feet apart facing each other. They throw the ball back and forth after each player successfully catches five consecutive throws each player takes one step back and continues the drill.
Set up a drill where each player charges a ground ball. Coming in on a ground ball will be the key to your defensive success. -
EnforcerTo save time and agrivation , get to the Field 10 inutes early and pick all the flowers and Dandilions from the field and surrounding areas

passwordHave them pair up about 5 - 10 feet apart and toss underhand for a few minutes till they fill comfortable catching the ball, then have them back up about 5 more feet, give them each 10 balls and then put a blindfold on each of them and have them throw overhand to each other. I promise, they will not get bored and you will find out who the cry babies are on the team. It is best to find out who your tough players are and who is just going to cry and wine about every little thing. "Good Luck"

Actually, Society and I have had our differences, but that comment stuck me as funny also. Perhaps it was the delivery but I found it funny. No disrespect to se-alum because we're cool. -

I actually really enjoy it! There's a certain amount of enjoyment you get when you can see that they're actually learning something. I don't take it too seriously, but I do want them to learn the fundamentals of the game. There will be no sock decorating during practices, lol!thavoice;761816 wrote:Relay races. groups.
