    Uhh yeah..they had funerals

It comes down to a few things.
    1. We are supposed to be better than our enemy so that is why we try to follow the customs and courtesies of their religon.
    2. The PC group.
    3. Not doing it correctly would inflame many around the world. Those muslins can be some crazy folks. As an American, we wouldnt strap bombs our ourselves and be a suicide bomber or carry out suicide attacks if they didnt bury someone to Christian customs or whatnot...but those muslins...they are looking for any and every reason to pronounce Jihad.

Interesting. I suppose that will generate some flak from the anti-US crowd. However, I fail to see where there was a better option (read: a physical grave site was not an option). Could possibly make a claim they couldn't get the body to family in time for a proper burial and so this was an acceptable alternative.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa.... now I know the whole thing about Muslims and pigs, but c'mon, you can't waste that much good pork and bacon on this POS!!! Just put him in a concrete tomb with all the pig hearts and toss him overboard.

I don't think we do. But it's probably a good thing to consider for national security and future foreign relations.

It's far less likely that someone is going to find a body on the bottom of the ocean that people don't know the location of, then be able to get that body off the ocean floor. Than it is for someone to get to a grave on land. I'd rather not risk our soldiers lives guarding the corpse of this piece of shit.

Yeah, the idea we (or an "ally") would guard his grave site is ridiculous. Dump him at sea and be done with it. Even guarding a building during cremation is unnecessarily risky.

Wait a minute...... It says we buried him at sea with in 24 hrs right????? BUT.... that doesn't mean we had to cut the rope!!!

So we could still trollen for sharks right?!?!?! :D

I wasn't meaning guard it like the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Anyway, it doesn't matter. The sea is fine.

Yes they did. They had as proper of burials as anyone can get under the circumstances. I can't believe you're really going to equate a proper burial/funeral to having the physical remains.

in theory this sounds good--in actuality, this was the reason:

...the U.S. would not have wanted there to be a grave site for fear of it turning into a place of worship for bin Laden's followers
    .

No, they didn't..they had a memorial service. I'll bet if you ask the families of the victims, they may protest, and quite vehemently I might add, the alleged attention given to Bin Laden's religious customs.

It wasn't to make him or his friends feel good. It was so that there's no way anyone can use us not burying him in their customs as justifications to recruit more members against us or commit acts of violence against us. If us giving this guy a proper Muslim burial is enough to stop one person from joining Al-Qaeda or prevent even one injury or death to an American soldier or citizen then why not do it?

It's a stupid thing to get upset about.
  • gut
Apparently there are two customs: one traditional Islamic burial and one for martyr's. Bin Laden DID NOT receiver the burial of a martyr.
  • darbypitcher22
    I think that we did.

And I feel that its a good idea that we did for precisely the reasons that the U.S. mentioned: that they didn't want it to a place for his followers to congregate, sympathize, and launch new attacks
  • Sykotyk
    A) We're better than them.
    B) Why would we ever considering creating a 'shrine' for his followers to make a pilgrimage to by burying him anyone on land?
    C) It's a hell of a lot harder to find ANY remains of a corpse in deep ocean. Fact is, he probably got eaten on the way down and what remains hit the soot at the bottom and is forever lost to any man EVER. And additionally, look how long it took to find the Titanic and we new exactly where it was when it hit the iceberg. That's a big hunk of steel/iron/metal and this is a little 200 lb. piece of shark bait.

No one, EVER will find his body. Or even begin to know where to go to begin to mourn him. Another reason his 'compound' should be pulverized into dust.
  • gut
In the old days of PT Barnum and Ringling Brothers, they would taken the body on the road with them. Or, more accurately I suppose, they would have made a replica and told people it was the real deal.
  • darbypitcher22
I'm pretty sure that compound will be destroyed.. should be the next step in this whole process...but those Pakistanis are being pretty fishy about this
