Graduation Cash/Card

  What do you jack wagons do...(if anything) for high school grads? Curious about all the cards and envelopes. I know it gets expensive this time of year....esp. when attending multiple Graduations/Spring weddings.
  
  Do you give cash? A gift card? A Congrats card thats empty? Just show up and drink beer and eat? LOL

  If you're good friends with the kid or with the family I'd say give a card with some cash in it. That's really what they're for. Doesn't have to be a ton.

  yeah depending on how well you know me (if i was the graduate), i would expect various amounts of money...from family members i got about 100, from good family friends maybe 50, and from friends of my parents who i knew but not really that well i either got a card or a card with $25 bucks or a gift card to bed bath and beyond or some place like that that i could use the card to buy stuff for college, i didnt get nearly as much as some of my friends who totaled around 4-5 grand and one kid got 10 grand from his grandparents...thats ridiculous in my eyes

  When i was a senior in high school, my parents would do a card and $20 for the classmates my brother and i were good friends with.
  
  For cousins and the like, they do $200 for high school graduation.

  This is a decent topic as The Wife got an invite for her old college roommates daughter, who Graduates this year in Nebraska.There's no way we can make it and we've only ever met her twice. Once in 2004 and then last year. We are going to send a Card with some Cash since it is an old friends daughter.

  Sounds like they didn't really care for your cousins, they only gave them $200 but gave you and your brothers friends each get a car and $20. I understand that some family members can be a pain in the ass but to buy all your friends a car and tossing $20 in a card must have bothered some of your relatives.

  Sounds like your parents didn't really care for your cousins, they only gave them $200 but gave you and your brothers friends each a car and $20. I understand that some family members can be a pain in the ass but to buy all your friends a car and tossing $20 in a card must have pissed off some of your relatives.

  as a kid from a rather middle class family, i ended up with about 600 dollars from relatives and friends of the family. Most of it was in 50 or 20 dollar increments. All was welcomed, as my rent was paid for about two and a half months once i moved away.

  As a veteran teacher, I have come to the conclusion that the grads should be giving ME a gift for putting up with THEM all year!

  I'm young and poor so I will usually do $25. My youngest cousin is graduating this year so I will probably give her $50 or $75.
  
  I think at my party (2003) I got $50-100 from family and $25 from most friends. I ended up with about $1500...seemed about average compared to my other friends. PS I love graduation parties...cheese trays are my favorite thing ever.

  20 to 50 was standard for me. I only got > 50 from like 3 people, and I got 10 bucks from cheapo relatives but I didn't expect much from them anyway.
