I've ALWAYS wanted to go to New York, but I hate crowds and people and long waits.
i was walking down the street faster than an ambulance was going through traffic with its lights and sirens on. -
bigkahunaI wasn't going to mention this, but my wife brought it up again at dinner tonight. Tell me what you all think....
We were at the 9/11 Preview Memorial building. There are artifacts from that day (a statue of liberty made out of badges from all of the different volunteer organization and locations...I saw one from Ohio, a fireman's helmet), there were quotes from different people on the wall. The biggest thing was a timeline and pictures from that day. If you've been there, you know what I'm talking about, if not, I'm sure you can imagine.
There were 2 Middle Eastern men walking through right in front of us and posing with the artifacts and the pictures from the timeline. The one that killed me was seeing one of them pose in front of the picture of the 2 towers smoking. He pointed up to them and had a smirk on his face.
I just thought that it was very tasteless and disrespectful to do something like that. I took a few pictures of things in there as well, but to pose in the picture with these things was just over the top. I'm not trying to sound racist at all but the fact that these 2 men were Middle Eastern just added insult to injury. -
AutomatikEhh....no biggie. There are tons of middle eastern people and others who resemble them in this city.

bigkahunaThat wasn't the issue I had. I just thought it was weird that they were "happily" posing with these things. I would feel that way regardless of skin color or w/e.
The issue I have is ANYONE posing with things in that building. The Middle Eastern thing isn't that big of an issue, it just made it THAT much more weird/tacky... -
AutomatikYeah who knows. Maybe just visitors? Have you noticed the foreigners in Times Sq losing their minds and posing for photo after photo?

bigkahunaYea that killed me LOL. I don't know how many people I saw doing model poses while I was there. I think the best were these 2 Russian girls posing on the ferry over the the Statue of Liberty. It was just funny.
