Class action lawsuit against EA Sports

  • Wildcat24
I received an email yesterday informing me that I'm part of a class action suit against EA This link does a nice job of explaining the reasoning behind the suit, most notably:
The crux of the lawsuit is this: Before Electronic Arts secured the exclusive NFL/NFLPA deal in 2004, rival 2K Sports was charging only $20 for NFL 2K5. EA Sports countered this by lowering the price of Madden NFL 2005 twice to $30 (at the time, most new video games were $50). When the NFL deal was struck and the 2K franchise ceased making games, EA brought its price tag back up to $50. According to the lawsuit the exclusivity deal was an anticompetitive action that caused a seventy percent increase in the price of the games and left the public with no alternative.
Since most of the OC has probably bought an EA football game in the last 6 years, has anyone else gotten the email? If so, thoughts?

The official page for the suit is: http://www.easportslitigation.com/

I got it a few days ago but didn't really pay any attention to it.

It'd be nice if something happened to lower the price of video games. Maybe this could be a start?

I wouldn't mind paying $20 or $20 for a game...just doubt it'll get done by April 19 when the new Mortal Kombat comes out!!!

I'd rather them allow NFL2K series to continue, as it was the surperior NFL game. NFL2K5 is still IMO the best football game ever made. I wouldnt have never bought Madden again had the series been able to continue.

i'm with COA. NFL 2k5 was really cutting edge. my only question is, since i did nothing regarding the email, i'm still a part of the class action. Don't know that it's a big deal as I'm not a lawyer but would keeping my right to sue on my own behalf (even though I'll likely never do it) be worth having?

I've had 3 different class action lawsuit mailings the last couple months. After the first one I assumed it was just a new way of phishing and now throw them all away.

Yeah, I thought that the EA sports email was phishing as well. As far as I know, I never provided anybody with email address after I purchased Madden.

I thought you had to provide an email address when signing into online now(at least one time in the last couple years, it remembers your PSN name after that)

yeah if you've ever done the easports online thing they have your email.

and i'm talking about the thing where you can create teams and shit on NCAA and share stats and whatnot.
