They can petition to get rid of teachers and principals. It's about time. These parents need to take these failing schools over and show them how it's done. -

Umm. Well. I think much of the problems in schools in general are becuase of the parents at home. Too many are not distilling values, hard work and dedication in their children. A bad school district with poor graduatiion rates most times are that way because the kids dont have parents that give a fuck. THey dont have a sense of doing anything and the parents are awful role models.dokken;736366 wrote:http://www.daytondailynews.com/news/dayton-news/ohio-could-allow-parents-to-take-over-failing-schools-1116270.html

Most of the issues in bad schools is the parents in the first place.
In the article it references a school in Compton Ca that has done this. Ya think that most of those kids have one, let alone two, parents who even make their kids go to school? Think most of those parents could even tell ya what classes their kids take?
Had had a few friends teach in the inner city for awhile before getting a job in a district that does great academically. They say the difference is night and day in how the kids act to teachers, react to authority and actually show up to school or do their homework.
On parent teacher days....shit.......no one would show up in the inner city.
Ya see a similiar story in good schools. Have a few family members who are teachers in great districts......they will tell ya for the most part the kids who do poorly have parents who dont care and dont even show up for the conferences, or never partake or volunteer for any school functions, or dont even care if their kids do homework. -
ts1227This comes off as giving the inmates the keys to the asylum in my mind.

Yeah..no doubt. Ok john and jane's mommy.....ya could not get your own kids to do their homework or show up and now we are gonna allow you to make sure that other parents make their kids to go.
Maybe I am missing something here. -
thavoiceI wanna comment on the budget thing and expenses.
We went to a hockey game in dayton. We went by a school...took a wrong turn and all and went into the parking lot. It was H U G E school. Forget its name but looked knew as not much else was around it.
Every single room had a light on. Every single one. This was about 1030 on a saturday night. HOw much expense does it take to light a full school at night? There was no even there, as no cars were in the lot. Just was amazing to me. Also....a local school played an inner city school this winter in hoops. That school took three buses from dayton. Varsity, JV and one for cheerleaders.
Whereas we take one to away games.
Runaway expenses like that are just not necessary.
