Taking your woman to the gun range?

  • raiderbuck
Ever do it? I'm planning to take this girl I'm seeing out to one this summer. Neither one of us has ever been...just kinda thought it be fun to go. The last gun I've fired was a BB gun in second grade. Anyone have any tips on where to go (Columbus area), where to avoid? Do the ranges provide the weapons? Hell...do they frown upon "first timers" coming out?

Ideally, I'd like to get a joint lesson if possible.

I think I would pass on the joint before going to a firing range......just saying

Best bet would be Ohio Valley in Lancaster you can rent the guns and buy the ammo. I wouldn't go in totally blind fumbling a glock around as I would frown on you. Just get the basics down like loading a clip etc...and you should have fun. The woman and I have been over there and shot before but its not her thing.

    Thanks.

I guess I should probably go at least once on my own. Just so I don't look like a total idiot in front of my date. Is it expensive?

Havent yet but will be bring the wife out to my sister's farm to go shooting when the weather gets warm.

Last year we had probably 4-5 different type of weapons out there and shoot.....quite a fun time for all!

If I were you ya dont need to really go out there on your own...maybe call and see what type of weapons they have and do a little research online so ya dont seem like a complete lost soul!

Went shooting a couple weeks ago at an electronic range....quite a fun time!

Ya could look at it both ways........she will most likely shoot him either way. SO would you rather her be proficient and get him with a clean and easy kill shot, or something in the belly or whatnot that is more painful and have a long, agonizing death?

Go tot he range...so when she DOES off ya it will be more painless on your end.

Don't go to Aimhi in New Albany. It's expensive and if you're not there to by a $1,000 gun they tend to treat you like a red headed stepchild. I have never shot at a range, but hubby took me out a few weeks ago to a friend's to shoot his new 9mm. It's too big for me, but I can put the clip in and shoot someone if I need to. ;) We're looking for something a little smaller for me.

And I would certainly go by yourself before you take her. A man who knows how to handle a gun can be very sexy. A man who is clueless is just very scary.

Good point. lol, hopefully she's not that crazy

If you have not gone to a range and you haven’t handled a pistol or rife in a long time I would not suggest doing this. One reason a weapon is not a toy and if you are not confident in the operation of a weapon this could be dangerous.
Go to the range yourself and learn the weapons and the safety of the range ..Don’t make ass out of yourself or potentially hurt someone….

My wife loves going to the range and has gone with me many times. My youngest and oldest daughters also enjoy the range and the shooting of different weapons. My middle daughter is not interested. (hint of Liberalism)

I was trained in the military and after 37 year of not handling a weapon I need some help and additional training. I now train to shoot competitively in the near future. I now invite our friends that want to go to the range for a little training and safety lesson and then we shoot. They have more enjoyment knowing the rules and confidence that someone is their to help that know what to do .. Make the experience better. I have converted many who had no interest in weapons to buy a weapon and apply for the CCW. My one shining accomplishment is a friend of my wife’s. Totally anti guns… huge Liberal ..extreme negativity about guns.
After months of bantering I invited her to the range and if she would fire just one round down range I would by dinner. Her and her husband both after about 30 minute at the range and me showing them the safe and shooting method fired one round. She hit the target almost center and was hooked…. 50 rounds later and dinner she wanted to go again. To date her and her husband ( he a cool guy) own two weapons, both CCW and go to the range monthly….
She loved the feeling of power of a weapon and the skill training to accomplish competency in shooting.

I did it on valentines day a few years back...she loved it

Never really thought about this as a good date idea, but after reading the above posts (and keeping safety in mind), it sounds like it could be fun. Although I am not so confident in my skills. I got to fire an M-16 in Israel when I was 17 and to say I was a bad shot is an understatement.

raiderbuck hope the date works out for you.

I think it's a good idea. Shooting can be thirsty work, so it's good to have someone around to bring you a cold beverage (and possibly a sandwich) when you need to take five.

    Indeed.

So i'm definitely going to go out by myself, at least once. This date isn't going to make or break our relationship anyway...it was something that we both thought would be fun and different (for us). Thanks for the tips everyone.

The note: Smell of gun powder, flash of the barrel, power of the weapon and a tight grip on a gun can make a woman wanting...

I think you should start off learning on a .22 rifle before firing handguns. Learn the different postions for firing and the safety measures that go along with it.
