Lol. You're just a tad too young to be.O-Trap;733279 wrote:But how would you know? Maybe I AM your neighbor! -
dwccrewCon_Alma;733266 wrote:...kind of thought my response was pretty obvious as in why would I want an alternative when the manner I have chosen works for us.
Because perhaps alternatives can work better? I'm not saying that my suggestion would, but it is a possibility. I hope you never have to worry about your home getting broke into, I really do. I just think it is naive to believe one is immune from a home invasion just because of where they live. I have seen people in small communities have a string of break-ins because they too didn't lock their doors believing they lived in a small, safe community. Turns out there was a "team" of guys driving 20 miles from the city and breaking into houses. Pretty easy to "break in" when all you have to do is walk in.
Again, I am not trying to be combatitive, I really hope you never have any problems. -

Why would you have and leave all those items in an unlocked car? -

Dont know what womens fetish about locking doors though. Females do that in my house too. It gets SO AGGRAVATING!.
Even the house doors...do thye really need locked when we are home? Case in point.......house has a storm door, regular door, then like a 5-6 foot enclosed porch thing and another door.
Some reason the women think ALL THREE need locked to my dismay. And our town is small...very low crime.
I dont understand it...especially the third door. they said for extra protection and I am like....if they wanna break in the front two doors.....that must be done from OUTSIDE THE HOUSE...ya reeally think that the bad guy would break in those fron tdoors.....and see the one inside the house and just give up when no one will see ya kicking that one in?
I'm with you on this.. My wife will lock the doors to the house when I'm outside working in the yard. I tell her I'm working in the yard please don't lock the doors , I'm working with power tools and if I cut off my hand I will not be able to ring the door bell or call you on the cell phone because my fingers will be on the ground. She hate me..
One day I was cleaning out the gutters and I hear her lock the door to the back room. So just when she started to walk away I screamed I'm falling and throw my jacket off the side of the roof. She screamed and scrambled to open the door she had just lock .. Oh was she pissed..
She was so pissed she pushed the latter over and told me to jump. That did help for a short time but she went back to old habits. -

Better than what? ...better than the steps we have been, or have not been, taking that have provided the most ideal living scenario for multiple decades? If I ever need a "better alternative" I'm certain locking the door would be my first go to.dwccrew;733283 wrote:Because perhaps alternatives can work better?....
I didn't receive your posts as combative at all. No worries. -

i had renewed my Drivers license in December and forgot to take them in the house...i live in a pretty nice neighborhood and although i usually lock my doors, i was dog sitting for my gf and while unloading the dog and his things i must have forgot to lock the door -

dwccrewAfter reading many of these posts I don't know whether I am cautious or paranoid. I keep things like SS card, birth certificate, etc in a safety deposit box at the bank and lock my doors almost everywhere. Don't live in a bad community, occasional break-ins do happen as we are only 20 mins from the city.

Hey, I've got parents and grandparents. I've got friends of all ages.Con_Alma;733282 wrote:Lol. You're just a tad too young to be.
Just need to find the low-hanging fruit you call home.
Cautious, though I could never put my SS card in a safe. I need it too often as an unincorporated business. I do keep it in a combo-locked firesafe in a hidden ceiling panel in the back of an unused closet, though.dwccrew;733303 wrote:After reading many of these posts I don't know whether I am cautious or paranoid. tsst_fballfanMine are mostly unlocked, even house sometimes. Of course Jazz (my 100lb GSD) loves strangers so I think I have little to worry about. If they get through her then they have bigger balls then I would if i saw her as a stranger.

If you get there before I get home from work just make yourself at home. The door's unlocked.O-Trap;733310 wrote:Hey, I've got parents and grandparents. I've got friends of all ages.

Nah, I wouldn't live with 'em. It'd make me too easy to catch! I visit from time to time, though.Con_Alma;733314 wrote:What the heck. You live with your parents and grandparents. Geeze. And I'll take you up on the Scotch! What's your address? -
Con_AlmaJust drive the shore of Lake Erie. You'll know it when you get there. The front door will be swinging in the breeze!
I'd enjoy the visit with you. Our conversation topics would be endless. -

Hell, I've got a 110-lb. Great Dane Bull, but I still lock the doors. The dog's big, loud, and scary, but he's not bulletproof. The deadbolt is. -

I bet my 10 ga will take out any home deadbolt!O-Trap;733338 wrote:Hell, I've got a 110-lb. Great Dane Bull, but I still lock the doors. The dog's big, loud, and scary, but he's not bulletproof. The deadbolt is. -

10??? I know my 12 ga. won't take mine out. At least not with the buckshot in it. That thing must hurt. I've shot an 8 ga. and a 12 ga., but the 8 ga. was supposed to be on a bipod (didn't know until after the first shot ... obliterated my shoulder).
Anyway, the beauty is, even if the intruder finds that my door and dog are not bullet-proof, I'll have time to find out if the INTRUDER is bullet-proof. -
OSHI always lock up. If I know my wife is coming home, I try to leave the door unlocked for her.
I trust people when I am around them. But I have a hard time trusting people to leave things be when I am away from them for hours upon hours.
I don't really lock my car when I am at my parents' house. They live in the middle of nowhere. No one goes out there. It's pretty safe. There's a couple of dogs that would make sure we knew if there were someone outside. Then there's a whole arsenal of guns that could come out of the house if someone were doing something they shouldn't be. -
Mister TwisterHonestly, the only time in the last 6 months that my car doors were left unlocked overnight (on accident by my wife), the center consol was looted for about $7.00 worth of change. Luckily, my GPS had been taken in the house two days earlier (I typically leave it in the glovebox). They also rummaged through the glovebox. If they had hit my trunk release, they would have also made off with a tool box.
I don't live in the worst of neighborhoods, but I always lock my car. -

Really I would think my 12ga would also. It's a 3 1/2 super magnum though.O-Trap;733352 wrote:10??? I know my 12 ga. won't take mine out. At least not with the buckshot in it. That thing must hurt. I am with you there. I am sure some would consider me an over enthusiastic gun owner.O-Trap;733352 wrote:Anyway, the beauty is, even if the intruder finds that my door and dog are not bullet-proof, I'll have time to find out if the INTRUDER is bullet-proof. -

Technically, I'm a gun owner only because I feel I should be in order to protect my household (yes, even the dogs). Otherwise, I wouldn't own one.tsst_fballfan;733375 wrote:Really I would think my 12ga would also. It's a 3 1/2 super magnum though.

Still, I make sure I know how to use it.
